(Gov. Scott) Walker (WI) refuses $37M for health care
Wisconsin will turn down $37 million from the federal government that had been awarded to help implement health care exchanges under President Barack Obama's health care reform law, Gov. Scott Walker said Wednesday.
On Wednesday Walker said he was notifying the federal government that Wisconsin was turning down the Early Innovator Grant, saying it didn't make sense to commit to reforms that could have a devastating economic impact.
The American Cancer Society called the Republican governor's action a move backward.
"A robust, consumer-friendly health exchange designed specifically for Wisconsin would greatly expand access to care to those who need it most, while preserving what already works. It's unfortunate the (Walker) administration is deciding to ignore this reality," said Allison Miller, Wisconsin government relations director for the American Cancer Society.

Hopefully, this stirs up even more resistance to such a partisan, conservative governor.

(62,683 posts)That was my first thought, that I hope the people of Wisconsin hear about this loud and clear, but
"A robust, consumer-friendly health exchange designed specifically for Wisconsin would greatly expand access to care to those who need it most, ..."
Those who need it most are probably already on board with the recall. If they'll be allowed to vote is another thing.

AND, come to think of it as I type this, are you sure you're not just surrounding yourself with like-minded people (like me!) so it may actually be FOUR people who haven't made up their minds? I remember I actually thought Kerry would win handily -- handily! -- in 2004 because the only people I spoke to were disgusted with Bush and going to give Kerry their vote. (I wasn't paying close attention, though, I must admit.)
Anyway, so let's say there are only three people who haven't made up their minds -- didn't Walker implement one of those oppressive voter-ID requirements? Are there enough people left who CAN vote to do the deed?
I really appreciate your input - enlightenment!!

As for the voter ID issue, your are correct. Please see...

I think this move by Walker and other Governors is one of the most dastardly, un-American moves I've ever heard of.
You are to be commended for all you are doing!

There are so many repubs here who have had it with this party and their bending over backwards for the zealet christo crowd. When a lot of the farmers got frieghtened about their BadgerCare they joined the Dems and I think they've figured out we were right...repubs lie. That would be all the city outlying areas that the repubs just redistricted to add to their roles because they were just sooooo comfident they had their votes. Not anymore.

(13,920 posts)of them thinking we have reached a stage in our Republican decline where its either push or fail for them.
There's gotta be a fear, a knowledge among those kicking in the cash, providing the power, that the status quo is not sustainable for long, that if they give the people enough time to realize whats going on, they may just get kicked out hard. I assume that the prevailing thinking on their side is if they push on through and consolidate power while destroying enough of our nations underpinnings, maybe they can make it a permanent thing.

(8,514 posts)(State) Rep. Richards: Walker's administration states his budget is not balanced
1/18/2012
"On Dec. 29, Walker administration secretary Mike Huebsch sent a letter to federal health secretary Kathleen Sebelius certifying that Wisconsin will have a budget deficit through June 30, 2013. By certifying that its budget isnt balanced, the Walker administration can now dodge a federal law requiring it to continue providing health care for up to 53,000 residents. The Walker Administration letter contrasts starkly with public comments by Walker, who has claimed repeatedly since June that his budget is balanced. "
So which is it? Is the budget balanced or is it not?
Apparently Wanker wants it both ways.
