Florida Guv Orders Review Of Voting Process

Source: TPM

Gov. Rick Scott (R-FL) ordered a review of the voting process in his state Saturday after voters in some counties spent up to seven hours in line on Election Day to vote, CNN reports.

"We are glad that so many voters made their voices heard in this election, but as we go forward we must see improvements in our election process," Scott said in a statement. "I have asked Secretary of State Ken Detzner to review this general election and report on ways we can improve the process after all the races are certified.”

The review will focus particularly on areas where the lines were long.

"As part of this evaluation, Secretary Detzner will meet with county election supervisors, who are elected or appointed to their position - especially those who ran elections in counties where voters experienced long lines of four hours or more," Scott said in the statement. "We need to make improvements for Florida voters and it is important to look at processes on the state and the county level. We will carefully review suggestions for bettering the voting process in our state."

The number of votes cast rose from 8.3 million in 2008 to 8.5 million in 2012 in Florida, according to CNN, while early voting was shortened from two weeks in 2008 to eight days this year.

his reputation with the voters of Florida. We are to expect a kinder, gentler Rick Scott.

I just hope it doesn't blur the memories of those in this state who despise the guy. Unfortunately, I live in a part of the state where the Republicans are so indoctrinated that they will vote for anyone who has an R after their names even when they know that person will screw them over in a heartbeat...

we have half the voters than Florida yet had 18 days of early voting including 5 weekend days. I don't know how the rest of the counties were set up, but in Guilford County we had 13 early voting sites(population here doesn't exceed .5 mil,) and after nine days another seven or so were opened. They weren't added they had already been scheduled in some of the more outlying areas.

63% of 2008 totals in NC had voted before election day. Of course, we had a Dem governor and SOS who set it up. Now, with the Repuke governor and super majorities in the State House and Senate coming in, who knows what'll happen. At least the Dem SOS was re-elected. I want to see the Gov and his minions try to lessen early voting in this state.

There's no way we'll stand for it here.

The repukes really outdid themselves on cash. Even little small-county commissioners were given a million or so by the superpacs.

Plus, the vote tallies in my county were really suspect. The number AND percentage of voters who voted straight dem ticket would not sync with the county voting more votes for Rmoney. When I went to vote, there was NOT ONE democrat helping with the election. Alll tables were filled with repukes.

on voting day?

It's simple ARITHMETIC.

If you have 100,000 people vote per early voting day and you had 10 early voting days, then cut back the number of voting days to 5, you should expect an extra 500,000 people on the regular voting day!

The number of overall voters won't diminish just because you decrease the early voting days. You just get more voters on each day.

My mom works at a polling station and she told me that when they did the training that they brought in 50 machines but on Tuesday they were all shocked to find only 14 machines. Any wonder why there were long lines in all democratic precincts....my wife, son, and I waited almost 2 hours ON ELECTION DAY, along with I'd say 120 out of the 142 people who were lined up when they counted when we arrived. BUT....not one of us left

Where are all the jobs you promised? FL has one of the worst job loss records in the nation under your reign. Cutting teachers pay and the number of teachers, firefighters and policemen didn't work out so well for you, did it? Your little rich friends didn't create more jobs with all the tax cuts you gave them. They just banked the money and partied on, gee big surprise there.

You lied and cheated and stole the election last time, but don't think you can do it again. A huge plurality of the folks here loathe you, even Republicans, so you will not win a 2nd time.
