Once the media owners, oligarchs and GOP operatives decide someone has to be ushered away from the action, it's their oldest trick. It's used very effectively against Democrats, because they don't want any taint to their ideas of good governance.

It's ineffective against the GOP since they are the party claiming all government is evil, seeking to dismantle it, or rather cut it into pieces to fit into their sponsors' pockets. So their moral lapses do not effect their voting block who intend to profit off of other citizens they do not know and are taught to despise.

The Kennedys are an example of both methods of assassination being employed. Kill off them literally or kill off their ideals. The people of MA didn't fall for the strategy, even though nationally more of them did, until myth became fact to them, without really looking at the players.

To know what a person really is, you need to know their supporters, but even more so, their enemies. Not to them personally, but their philosophy and who that effects.

And unless Reid keeps his word.

If my choice is any Dem currently in office who is actually liberal, i'd prefer Fitz. If i could pick anyone, i would go with Vincent Bugliousi. He sure as hell would scare BushCo.

There has been some buzz about Schneiderman leaving NY and going to Washington. No one comes close to Spitzer as for as capability and smarts. But I can't see Spitzer ever being appointed or confirmed. Too much baggage. If not AG, I can see Schneiderman going to a Cabinet position somewhere.

Obama could take Schneiderman to DC! Schneiderman is progressive, and could remain involved in the financial industry investigation as the USAG.

As a practical matter, his own personal political ambitions would be best served if he joins the Obama administration, I don't know if he will want to wait until Cuomo leaves to run for Governor. Cuomo and Schneiderman also have a strained relationship, and if Cuomo somehow is elected President, there is no way that Schneiderman could obtain a Cabinet appointment or other prominent national position.

There are things the NY State AG can do that few people can, due to knowledge of the financial sector and familiarity with the people in it. That is a lifetime of experience that is not easily gained.

Obama could make use of him, sure, but look what happened when he took Napolitano from AZ, which ended with the Teahadists and Brewer going full blown wacko.

These lower positions can be more important on the ground than what others in D.C. do. More is determined at the state level than the federal, such as voting practices. The misery of this last election was created locally, not by Washington, D.C.

But you likely know a lot more about what is going on New York state, I'm on the Left Coast.

Patrick is my governor and he said he would finish his term. As the article points out, Patrick also said the same thing (he would finish his term as governor of MA) when his name was at the top of the short list for AG back in 2008.

I was pretty sure the dinner was purely social -- given that the president and the governor are really good friends, and nothing more. I think the Times and other papers that picked up the story about the dinner really being an exploratory meeting to discuss the AG job was an attempt to report 'news' when there really wasn't any.

Too bad that a qualification that leads one to the left in the first place is usually an open mind, or even a brain that thinks about "stuff."

Though Harold Koh and Jackqueline Ngyuen will also be given consideration since it puts Republicans in the position of once again roadblocking APAs, a minority group, that is vital to their chances in the upcoming elections.

I say this politically as the Right wing will continue to go after any AA in that position tying up the ability to actually prosecute all these white collar criminals, election fraud, etc. etc. Put a qualified Hispanic in the position and let them attack that person while continuing to alienate the Hispanic vote. Or leave that person out of all the political grandstanding while real work gets done. That would be the cynical but politically astute thing to do in this latest arena of identity/racial politics.
