FBI Agent in Petraeus Case Under Scrutiny
By DEVLIN BARRETT, EVAN PEREZ and SIOBHAN GORMAN
WASHINGTONA federal agent who launched the investigation that ultimately led to the resignation of Central Intelligence Agency chief David Petraeus was barred from taking part in the case over the summer due to superiors' concerns that he had become personally involved in the case, according to officials familiar with the probe.
New details about how the Federal Bureau of Investigation handled the case suggest that even as the bureau delved into Mr. Petraeus's personal life, the agency struggled with questionable conduct by one of its ownincluding allegedly sending shirtless photos of himself to a woman involved in the case.
FBI officials declined to identify the agent, who is now under investigation by the Office of Professional Responsibility, the internal-affairs arm of the FBI, according to two officials familiar with the matter.
............................
However, supervisors soon became concerned that the initial agent might have grown obsessed with the matter, and prohibited him from any role in the investigation, according to the officials.

(35,701 posts)He was hardly a whistle blower. He was a disgruntled agent who had been taken off the case for impropriety. And Cantor apparently gave him some cover. Hmm. Why?

(86,789 posts)He got too cocky since this wasn't supposed to come out like it did... It must have been an FBI rookie who was looking for a quick leap to higher position and thought this was the ticket since it was supposed to get mittens elected, perhaps.

Just double click on entities with a little "x" in the right hand corner and see who they connect to. Hints are on the right of the graph and tools are on the left - a pop out bar.
Couldn't find Reichert in there but my eyes are getting blurry looking all this stuff up. What a can o' worms.

(15,812 posts)I am thinking they would have tolerated the Petraeus behavior, had it not become "public." They investigated, decided there were no laws broken, and the shirtless guy didn't want to leave it there, and thought in some strange way it might be related to the election!
Yes, this is a strange story.
