Senate Passes Bill Boosting Payments to Veterans.

Source: nyt/ap

The Senate has sent the White House a bill giving nearly 4 million veterans and survivors a 1.7 percent increase in their monthly benefit payments next year.

The normally routine measure was delayed for weeks because an unidentified Republican senator objected to it.

That objection was lifted, without explanation, when Congress returned this week. The Senate then acted quickly to ensure that checks issued beginning in January reflect the adjustment for the higher cost of living.

The House approved the measure in July. The bill now goes to President Barack Obama for his signature.

They both deserve it. but the way it reads, it might make some people think that all veterans get money from the government.

Obama's re-election to wrench the Republican's hands from around the financial necks of veterans. Can't wait until we start dealing with the "Pentagon War Budget". No more Veterans.

And 1.7% of $1,000 is a whopping $17.

We're going to need all the votes in the House to flip to stop obstructing measures saving lives and the dignity of those who served and those who have paid to support them.

that for many folk, predominately in the Red States and increasingly for women and minorities, it passes for their Jobs and Employment Plan and covers their sorry political behinds.

And the agreement they signed when they thought that the GOP Teahadists would win this month, is going to cut defense enormously. They will lie and squeal, but they did it.

Seeing this next to that story about that disgraced and demoted general, who will still get 200k a year, is infuriating. Better than nothing I guess.

their constituents can make an educated decision whether he's worthy enough to be returned to Congress.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was Rand Paul, though. That p.o.s. believes the world revolves only around him.

15. COLA for veterans and a Senators hold

These Senatorial holds need to have a name attached. This procedure is used quite often for just about anything. The thing is different Senators can place a hold on the same item. Rotate the blame. Anything is welcome. Is the hold off as a result of the election?
