Romney Co-Chair: Voter ID Would Have Won Us Wisconsin

Source: talkingpointsmemo.com

A state senator who served as co-chair of Mitt Romney’s Wisconsin campaign suggested this week that the Republican presidential nominee would have carried the state if a voter ID law had been in place.

Voter ID “absolutely” would have made a difference in the outcome of the election, state Sen. Alberta Darling (R) told Mike Gousha of WISN on Sunday. She suggested that voter fraud helped President Barack Obama win the state.

Sounds like the GOP is drawing lines in the sand. The saner members want to moderate their positions. The crazies don't want the party to change, want to be even more extremist and see voter suppression/vote fraud as their path to victory. Whatever ultimately happens to their party, the Democrats and everyone else on the left needs to be even more vigilant. These folks are desperate and there is nothing a desperate GOP is incapable of doing.

Romney would have won if fewer democrats had voted. Also true if blacks were still counted as three fifths of a vote.

Republicans were always a nostalgic bunch.

The Republicans rely on gerrymandering and voter suppression to help them retain some semblance of a hold on power. I never thought I'd see them admit it, though.

When the only ways you can get elected are by adjusting the electorate and keeping the other party's voters away from the polls, you need to just hang it the fuck up and go home.

Done right, voter id would add two or three minutes per voter. Multiply that by a few hundred x a few hundred districts and people would have gone home, frustrated. = fewer voters.

should be proactive and get so e type of photo id before the next election. Republicans will not give up on trying to keep voters away, especially black and brown ones who tend to vote Democratic. If people would begin to get required id now, and if they continue to check to make sure they are still registered the repugs lose.

It caught so many people off guard this time. I can guarantee voters you must stay on top of this long before it is time to vote and you must be prepared to fight on election day if someone challenges your Constitutional right to VOTE!

We need a grassroots effort to continue to register voters, and offer transportation for anyone who needs id before the midterms, we could really hurt them at that point if we are ready.

However, for many people the problem is not just getting a ride to the DMV to get a state ID. They lack the birth certificate or marriage license that they would have to provide to get that ID, and can't afford the money or hassle to obtain those documents. The list of acceptable IDs in the (for now) enjoined Wisconsin law is limited, by design, to eliminate low-income voters and students.

Voting is a protected constitutional right.

The government should not impede voting. The government should not require a note from your mom in order to vote--or a DNA sample or a test. Nor should it require an ID.

Make no mistake, they'll try to post voter ID laws in most swing states. If you look up all of the states that have voter ID and the states where legislation is pending--it's all about the swing states.

We all know this is about voter suppression. It's unAmerican. These people are Fascist toolbags.

I live in a swing state and our Secretary of State couldn't get our state Dem-majority legislature to pass voter ID--so he passed the laws himself!!!! He passed "emergency voter ID laws" in our state. Boy, he sure ran a track meet trying to kiss the Republican-party dons and their corrupt butts.

The story ended well though. A judge struck down these ridiculous "emergency" laws a few weeks before the election.

I'm getting so tired of these criminals.
