Cook County begins enrolling 250,000 new Medicaid recipients

Source: wbez.org

This week Cook County will start sending letters to about 115,000 of its low-income residents inviting them to enroll in the county’s new Medicaid program.

Adults under 65 with an income of up to 133% of the federal poverty level will be eligible for Medicaid beginning in 2014 in states that choose to participate in the Affordable Care Act Medicaid expansion.

In Cook County, the expanded eligibility will begin even sooner, in January 2013. Cook County applied for and received a federal waiver to let the law kick in a year early.

But Dr. Raju said he hopes that by then, they will want to choose County Care. In addition to setting up patients in a “medical home”, County Care will provide mental health and substance abuse services, which Illinois Medicaid currently does not cover. The lack of mental health services in the region has been a topic of ongoing controversy.

cook county president toni preckwinkle ALWAYS says that everyone in cook county jail has a substance abuse or untreated mental health issue. it is the biggest psych ward in the country. this is a TREMENDOUS leap forward for cook county.

yeah for progressives. toni is the best.

They used to pay for just about everything. Now they are like all the other insurance companies denying everything with the parents fighting on the phone. It's sad. I've been a pediatric nurse for 24 years and I've seen quite a change recently. I guess it's because our state is broke.

But, maybe things will improve with the ACA and more federal dollars into the system.

I went to get some blood drawn...chatting with the gal at the desk at the lab...in behind me comes the old, fat, white guy (hey, I'm a skinny white guy, so I'm just say'n).

Takes about 5 seconds and he launches into some crap about a local business that's been around forever, closing...all because of Obama Care! AND, his daughter's health insurance at her job is going up a BILLION percent! She will have to pay for everything!

Then the desk gal says something like, OH I just don't know if I can even afford to pay the insurance here anymore, starting the first of the year.

I am SO over this stuff. I simply cannot believe that businesses with over 50 employees (btw, if a business has 50 or more employees, they are no SMALL business) are shutting down just because of ACA...there HAS to be other things wrong financially. And if companies, are somehow getting insurance plans for 01/01/2013 that are "unaffordable" for the employees...doesn't that just sound like some kind of a ploy so that they will have to get their insurance in the pools?

My premiums, as a single person, for 01/01/2013 are only going up about 6 bucks a month (now I'll say, I work for a massive company that is "self insured".)

Personally, I don't know the ACA details and I'm pretty darned certain, that the old and angry white guys, don't either!

So much bullshit out there going on from Haters, Insurance Companies and Pharma.

In my area of Southern California...one of the local hospitals has been on a MASSIVE building boom!

They are about 3/4 done with a massive hospital expansion and have been putting up new buildings near the hospital like crazy...all with the hospital's name. I mean....massive!

One employee in one of my Mom's doctor offices said, quietly, it's all in anticipation of THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of new patients when ACA fully kicks in...she even said that they should make unbelievable amounts of money!

So...again...no credit to President Obama ever...but just wait, the Pukes will eventually start taking credit for all the good stuff.
