Rice to meet senators whose support she covets

WASHINGTON (AP) - U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice is meeting with key lawmakers in what could be her final pitch for their support if she is nominated to be the next secretary of state.

The discussions, beginning Tuesday, will focus on her much-maligned explanations of the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans, officials said, but she's also clearly auditioning for America's top diplomatic job.

Despite lingering questions over her comments five days after the Benghazi attack, Rice has emerged as the front-runner on a short list of candidates to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton, with Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., seen as her closest alternative. But despite a softening of Republican opposition to Rice, she still has work to do to ensure that enough GOP senators are willing to back her potential nomination.

Rice's series of meetings on Capitol Hill this week will therefore be a critical test both for Republicans, who will decide whether they can support her, and the administration, which must gauge whether Rice has enough support to merit a nomination. According to congressional aides and administration officials, Rice is expected to meet with small groups of lawmakers who will press her on her since-retracted description of the Benghazi attack as the byproduct of an angry protest over an American-made film ridiculing Islam. She'll be joined by acting CIA Director Michael Morell in the meetings.

in order to neutralize potential Left opposition to her neocon and hawkish foreign policy.

A lot of people have fallen for this Kibuki Theater over side-issues to the Benghazi attack, that has only served to distract from the fact that Rice and others in the Administration have pulled off a string of MENA region civil wars in support of a looming offensive against Iran.

5. I thought this was a Fox News article for sure. "Rice to meet senators whose support she *covets*"??

And then the rest of the article reads like a propaganda piece hand-written by none other than Rightwinger tool and corporate lackey, Frank Luntz.

"Despite the lingering questions over her comments from five days after the Benghazi attack"?!? I mean, really, AP? How much did you all get to have these two Republican shills disguised as journalists write this pro-GOP propaganda piece? I hope it wasn't all too much because they didn't even bother to hide their right-wing and GOP bias.

covet: to desire wrongfully, inordinately, or without due regard for the rights of others: to covet another's property.

Rice doesn't want their property or spouses--they have nothing that she desires in the sense of what that word means. Now, if we were talking about Sec. Clinton, then, yes, that's the proper use of the word.

Does Rice want their confirmation? Yes, but that doesn't answer the verb coveting by its own primary definition... and she's not wrong for either wanting the job or wanting confirmation of the post nor is her desire for the job inordinate or without due regard to the rights of others. The woman wants to serve her country in this manner and she is qualified for the position.
