Idaho lawmaker shares ‘last chance’ idea to elect Romney

Source: Idaho Statesman

A state senator from north-central Idaho is touting a scheme that’s been circulating on tea party blogs, calling for states that supported Mitt Romney to refuse to participate in the Electoral College in a move backers believe would change the election result.

Sen. Sheryl Nuxoll, R-Cottonwood, sent an article out on Twitter headed, “A ‘last chance’ to have Mitt Romney as President in January (it’s still not too late).”

Constitutional scholar David Adler, director of the Andrus Center for Public Policy at Boise State University, said the plan is not “totally constitutional,” as touted in the article, but is instead “a radical, revolutionary proposal that has no basis in federal law or the architecture of the Constitution.”

* * *
(Nuxoll) said, “I think it is very, very sad that we elected our current president, because he is definitely not following (the) Constitution. He is depriving us of our freedoms by all the agencies, and so … what I’m thinking is the states are going to have to stand up for our individual rights and for our collective rights.”

The mainstream media needs to stop pushing the false equivalency narrative that both parties are at equally at fault for the paralysis that is gripping the federal government. The fact of the matter is that the Republican party is filled with folks who frankly do not have a grip on reality. Gone are folks like Jack Kemp who at least acknowledged the existence of poverty, George H.W. Bush who raised taxes in response to the deficit, or even Ronald Reagan who signed the California Environmental Quality Act into law as the Governor of California.

Now, Republicans are operating in an entirely separate Fox News/Limbaugh/Grover Norquist fantasyland where a Republican state legislator who won over 60 percent of the vote can claim that ignoring the results of the Presidential election is necessary because President Obama is "is definitely not following (the) Constitution." It just goes to show you that many Republicans have no sense of irony or hypocrisy. They see no problem in trampling upon the Constitution to save it. Many members of the House would happily plunge the nation into default in order to achieve fiscal responsibility!

The 2/3 quorum refers to the House if convened to elect the President because the Electoral College failed. The EC itself has no set quorum beyond a majority, all Obama needs is 270 EVs, which he gets even if all Romney electors boycott it. Just a stupid sore loser idea.

Rogue electors are not uncommon.. With the tea idiots in control of the Gobbers, quite likely many won't show. States like Idaho. Utah , Wyoming, this will probably happen.. Any bets. Maybe 30 votes..
Has Mittens been asked how he feels about this tactic. ?

It wouldn't change the fact that President Obama still has way past 270 Electoral Votes (332 to be exact), and that Mitt R(Money) failed to barely scratch 200.

Each state has TWO sets of electors--a democratic set and a republican set. So Wyoming for example has three electoral votes, thus six electors, but only the three from the winning party (meaning the party that won the state, not the national) convene for the electoral vote.

For this plan to work, the GOP would have to convince enough democratic electors not to show, which is not likely at all.

What you really need to do is to get all the provinces in Canada and Mexico admitted as states in the union. You then need to ship a whole shitload of teabaggers to those places so you'll be able to send Republican electors' votes to the Electoral College. By doing this you should easily be able to come up with more Romney electoral votes than Obama votes, and therefore swing the election in your favor. It's going to be a vast amount of work and you only have two weeks to do it in, so get your asses off the Internet and into gear!
