GOP Senator Praises Susan Rice: Don’t ‘Shoot The Messenger’ On Benghazi Intel

Source: ThinkProgress

By Ben Armbruster on Nov 28, 2012 at 10:28 am

Republican senator on Wednesday praised U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice during an interview on CNN, saying Rice is a “very smart, very intelligent woman” and that she shouldn’t be held responsible for the misleading information she presented on the Benghazi terror attacks during her Sept. 16 Sunday show appearances.

Republicans led by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) had led an all out assault on Rice over the past several weeks, suggesting that she deliberately misled the American people when she said the attack in Benghazi that killed four Americans was sparked by a demonstration against an anti-Islam video (Rice said yesterday that there was no demonstration). Because of the dust-up, McCain called Rice “not very bright” and a group of House Republicans called her “incompetent.”

But Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA) doesn’t believe that to be the case. While Isakson told CNN’s Soledad O’Brien this morning that the administration needs to answer questions about what happened in Benghazi, he added, referring to Rice, “what you don’t want to do is shoot the messenger.” Rice “is a very smart, very intelligent woman. I know this Ms. Rice, I think she’s done a good job as Ambassador to the U.N.,” Isakson said:

In order to open up a senate spot the republicans believe they can gain Kerry's seat with perhaps Scott Brown the way Brown got Ted Kennedy's senate seat.

ANYWAY......

Why aren't these republicans more concerned with the actual attack, concentrating on how the 'terrorist' got by the US Embassy security or lack of it?

Could it be the republican majority in congress purposely cut the embassy security budget - The same budget Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asked & begged Boehner and the republican congress for funding for more security at the Libyan Embassy, that it was extremely important as it proved to be.

Why did the republicans refuse & cut funding? - Was this a set-up?

As the republican congress cut hundreds of millions of dollars from embassy security knowing how important it was.

That's the real cover up - the republicans appear to be covering up by going after Susan Rice for saying what the CIA admittedly told her to say publicly.

Shame on the republicans for trying to divert attention from how this attack even occurred, to pointing the finger at Susan Rice while the republicans are using their usual smokescreens for their own neglect & responsibility.

The media should be in investigating how the attacks occurred in the first place – Not the republicans (McCain & Graham) bogus smokescreen to divert attention from the real problem the attack itself.

It is rediculious reasoning. All these Republicans opposing Rice because they want that Mass seat so bad. It is a tin foil hat theory and it is not based on reason. Even by some stretch of the imagination, if he were to win this seat-it changes very little. It does not give the Republican the majority. Why would they go to this much trouble for one very unemportant seat? Did you ever think there is more to the Republican's concerns? Don't you have concerns about the telling and retelling of this incident?

There are a number of reasons why the republicans are going after Susan Rice

The republicans would love to have been able to have a special prosecutor to investigate trying to tie this bullshit to Obama (ala Ken Starr) hanging around, looking everywhere for something to weakening the administration with bogus false claims and accusations for years as Starr did ....that was indeed their wet dream.

It's also clear the republican would much rather make up shit about Rice than talk about their own mistakes as far as funding and their duplicity regarding their own remarks in the past supporting republican Secretary of State (SoS) Condi Rice.

To be able to keep Susan Rice from a nomination would be a nice coup for the republicans having his first important nominee clearly rejected would give more strength & incentive to republican arguments if Obama decides to appoints a 'real' liberal to the US Supreme Court which will occur.

There are a lot of factors involve and NONE can be dismissed by the diabolical republicans -And for you to say absolutely republican don't care a bit about getting rid of Rice, as the republicans praise Kerry, yeah the same hypocritical republican assholes praising Kerry as a "great" choice for SoS and that republicans would not wanting to grab another senate seat is just plain stupid and naive as well as uninformed and ignorant on your part!!
