McConnell: We're not going to let government shut down

Source: The Hill

02/26/24 7:47 PM ET

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) vowed to reporters Monday that Senate Republicans would not let the government shut down, later warning colleagues on the floor that a government shutdown would be a political loser for fellow lawmakers. “We’re not going to allow the government to shut down,” McConnell told reporters Monday as he walked to the Senate chamber to deliver his opening comments for the week.

The veteran GOP leader doubled down on his message on the Senate floor, urging colleagues to avoid a standoff that could wind up shuttering federal departments and agencies.

“Without action by Friday, the country would face needless disruptions to agriculture, transportation, military construction, and essential services at the VA,” McConnell warned colleagues on the floor in comments that also appeared to be directed at the House.

“So I’ll say at the outset what I’ve said every time Congress has faced this threat: Shutting down the government is harmful to the country. And it never produces positive outcomes — on policy or politics,” he said.

He was probably afraid that Republicans would lose too many seats in 2022, but even though they won the House it has hardly been a win. All their House majority has accomplished is to showcase for voters what loons are now in the Republican Party. Republicans had an opportunity to sideline Trump forever, and they were too stupid to do it.

for most everything, especially his absolute 180 degree opportunistic hypocrisy stealing two SC seats. ("Presidents shouldn't appoint in the last year of their term"/"let's rush ACB through in the last two weeks of a republican president's term despite RBG not even having grown cold yet..." )

The only minor advantage is he's lawful evil instead of chaotic neutral like 45 (lawful evil = generally malicious, but a rule-follower - especially how the rules can be manipulated to his advantage - working within a system instead of trying to overthrow it like with his "desk-drawer veto" ) and that Biden and he go way back and are buddies so he might have a tiny soft spot in his evil black heart when he negotiates with Joe.

(I dub Trump chaotic neutral because he has no problem stepping over the line of any system or rules that don't benefit him, and will always choose what's beneficial for himself and his bottom-line intentions.)

If we ever get our democracy back to a state where we can pass laws to protect it better from charlatans and insurrectionists, we need to constantly remind whoever is in the halls of Congress that doesn't want our country to turn into Russia, Hungry or North Korea. Those trumpers being interviewed at his rallies are the dumbest stumps I have ever seen or heard.

Speaker Moses is too terrified of his own side of the aisle to bring anything to the floor. Is Mitch gonna send in some muscle with black bags to put over heads and a big bus to whisk them away long enough for DEMs and the few half way sane GOP Reps to get the work done?

since rwnj gingrich pulled the idea out of his butt. Anyone who thinks the rwnj went off the rails when traitor entered politics didn't notice the early stages when stone aided and abetted nixon, the October Surprise, the smears against Bill Clinton, smearing John Kerry, the racism, the misogyny, the ageism, the rwnj weaponizing the budget, social programs, education, individual rights, including women's rights, LGBTQ+, voting rights, and relentlessly arming their rwnj army. I have no positive thoughts for anyone supporting the gop when they are like rats gnawing away at the basic structures our country was built on, trying to pull it down no matter the results. They don't even have the decency to feed the hungry.
I have 3 relatives volunteering at food banks. I thank God that our family doesn't need to be a client, but seeing the need when they volunteer is soul crushing. I guess rwnj don't have souls to crush.

Sharing food, whether giving, getting or sharing with each other, is lifting. I'm sick of hearing about the lowlifes that pass for elected officials. It says a lot that rwnj are meaner than Scrooge.

That lasts for the rest of the fiscal year. Covering all spending bills. All.

Then Jeffries can get it through on one of his pre-greased discharge bills.

So prove it. Agree to it. Vote on it. Send it.
