Adam Schiff: 'Dumb down' the briefing for Donald Trump

Source: Politico

03/10/2024 12:11 PM EDT

Rep. Adam Schiff hopes U.S. intelligence officials will limit the information they share with former President Donald Trump when they brief him on national security matters — briefings that are standard for presidential nominees.

“I have to hope — and knowing the intelligence community, as I do — that they will dumb down the briefing for Donald Trump. That is, they will give him no more information than absolutely necessary,” said Schiff, a California Democrat who previously served as the Democratic chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, until Kevin McCarthy, then the Republican House Speaker, kicked him off.

POLITICO first reported that intelligence officials were preparing to brief Trump on national security matters if he secures the GOP nomination this summer — despite concerns, given Trump’s indictments for mishandling classified documents.

The decision to brief Trump would be in keeping with a practice that dates back to 1952, but, as Schiff noted Sunday, it would be the first time an administration has willingly shared classified information with a candidate who is facing criminal charges related to their handling of classified material. Given Trump’s track record, “we can’t trust that he will do the right thing with that information,” Schiff argued Sunday during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “He’s been so reckless.”

It might be best to dumb it down as far as the content, but leave plenty of big words in. The fake gold idol can be relied on to struggle to recall words of over six letters, from what I can tell. His obvious gift for insane word salad may be our best hope, in so many ways!

The "canary trap". If you suspect a security leak, feed slightly altered information to each potential suspect. Whichever one is "singing" will tell his version of the story and help the counter-intel folks track down the leaker.

Trump leaks like a screen door on a submarine, use Donnie Dipshit as a counter-intel asset to feed misinformation to Putin, MBS, etc.

I'll edit this to add: Not to mention the legal ramifications. Imagine the impact to the election if sensitive information that was only given to numb nuts was leaked into the wild. That would probably rise to the level of actual chargeable treason if it was proven that he passed it to our enemies.

Pick a couple of Putin’s close allies and let Trump find out they are actually US agents. Then, when they accidentally fall out of windows, we’ll be rid of two Putin toadies and can use the info to expose Trump as a traitor.

iirc, the briefings aren't required by law; there's no reason to give a traitor like #DementiaDonnie any information.

One thing I've heard suggested is that #DD purposely be fed false info to see who he passes it on to.

Time to end “the practice”. Old rules out the door. Just ask Mitch. What’s Trump gonna do about it??? If it’s not a law then it means nothing anymore. Zero. Zilch. Done.

for a few months. I never took that as a done deal. It may have been the smartest thing to say at this point.

They had to Dick and Jane everything for Trump, and he never bothered to read much of his briefings anyway. He doesn't deserve any better for sure.

At the most I would send someone to give him his briefing with no one else allowed in the room. He gets it verbally or reads it himself and is not allowed to keep a copy. Plus, include something that if it is leaked, they know it had to have come from Trump.

When I was in the IC, one of my jobs was to do assessments. Just before COVID hit in 2020, I was working on something that had been selected for a Presidential Daily Brief (yay, me!). Anyway, I had to cut down a 6 page report into one paragraph, three sentences at the most. That's the longest TFG's attention span was. I asked our PDB liaison if I should write it in crayon.

Trump would not be granted the lowest level security clearance with his background.

He is under indictment
He is heavily indicted.
He associates with insurrectionists
He provided aid and comfort to insurrectionists attempting to stop the regular business of government.
He is under the foreign influence of several individuals and countries.

Let me give you an example. If you were behind in your student loan payments owed the the government, you would be automatically disqualified.

Feed him false intelligence. Tell him that musk is an agent tasked to set up putin snd draw rusdian troops into a disaster by sharing Intel on starlink, which he is sharing with ukraine.

Give him something that can be tracked. Then charge him with espionage for leaking it.

Trump is the presumptive Republican nominee. He won’t receive a briefing until after the Republican Convention.

I believe he will drop out before then. Why? If the Summer polls even hint that he will lose buh bye. He will climb aboard Trump One in the middle of the night to parts unknown. I believe with my whole heart most Americans are sick of his chaos, cons, and hate speech.

Everything Trump touches dies - including the Republican Party.

the small castle belonging to a wonderful guy who let his people enjoy lots of rights, like the ability to eat at Wendy's and have ice cream. The Ogre took some of Mr. Wonderful's property and refused to give it back. Then he sent his army of monsters into the rest of Mr. Wonderful's land and hurt a lot of his people and stole some of the little children living with their nice parents. Friends of Mr. Wonderful provided help to him but the Ogre was so big and threatened everybody. But the worst thing was that some of the people in the lands helping Mr. Wonderful refused to help him any more and they sided with the Ogre and sold their souls to the Ogre. Mr. Biden, head of that friend's land begged those people to help Mr. Wonderful but they didn't care about helping anyone but themselves. Does that explain it for you Mr. Trump?"
