Netanyahu blasts Sen. Schumer: 'We're not a banana republic'

Source: USA Today

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday denied claims that he is an obstacle to peace in Gaza and dismissed as "totally inappropriate" Sen. Chuck Schumer's call for Israelis to hold elections to vote Netanyahu from power.

"It's inappropriate to go to a sister democracy and try to replace the elected leadership," Netanyahu said. "That is something the Israeli public does on its own, we're not a banana republic."

Schumer, D-NY, the nation's highest-ranking Jewish elected official and long a supporter of Israel, said last week that "nobody expects Prime Minister Netanyahu to do the things that must be done to break the cycle of violence, preserve Israel’s credibility on the world stage and work toward a two-state solution.”

He had pulled troops away to support settlers taking homes that had been deeded to Palestinians back in 49. He left only a small cohort of mostly female staff at the Gaza border. As bad a Hamas was Bibi is also responsible due to his negligent actions.

question which is plainly in front of them regarding the food and water situation. The Israeli government knew ahead of time they were going to be doing this massive operation, disrupting all supply of food and water, taking entire control of everything and planning on remaining. So how is it that you had no apparent plan for how to provide food and water to well over a million people? If not initially then certainly after several weeks the government in Jerusalem certainly knew what they were facing. It is simple common sense. Why no major plan then? Letting in a dozen trucks a day when the pre-war flow was in the hundreds is hardly a plan to avoid mass starvation.

Since you are so good at handling your own place in the Middle East, then you can do it without 3 billion a year. Oh, and you obviously don't need any military assistance, so we can forgo that as well. Since you are so good at being independent, let's see how independent you are!

This is such bullshit. Netanyahu undermined Obama from the moment they met cause Obama openly supported the two-state solution. Obama in his "Normal America is Back" global speaking tour referred to the Palestinian territories as "Palestine". That alone must've triggered Netanyahu no end, since he's always opposed the two-state solution.

Jewish farmers began to grow bananas in Israel in the 1930s, first in the north near the Kinneret, (Sea of Galilee), and later throughout the country. Though they are a warm-weather crop, Israel’s burning hot summers can be too much for banana plants. Israeli farmers realized they could compensate by erecting canvas roofs to block bananas from the sun during the hottest summer months. They also conducted pioneering research in banana plant irrigation, fertilization and cross-breeding. Today, Israel produces about 45,000 tonnes of bananas each year, supplying about 20% of all bananas consumed in the West.

"What are the charges?
The corruption trial combines three separate cases, known as Cases 1000, 2000, and 4000.

Why didn't Netanyahu resign?
Few sitting national leaders have stood trial on criminal charges over their official acts. Mr. Netanyahu was Israel's first. But he was not legally obliged to step down: Israeli prime ministers can remain in office until they are convicted of a crime.

How much time could he face, if any?
If convicted, Mr. Netanyahu could be sentenced to several years in prison.

He called the trial "an attempt to thwart the will of the people, an attempt to bring me and the right down."
He accused the police, the prosecution and 'left-wing newspapers' of colluding against him but said he would not be cowed.
"They don't mind if some obedient right-wing poodle comes instead, but I am not a poodle," he declared.

Really, considering how much money we give Israel, he really should shut up and be thankful. We could just as easily say no more aid, then what? Also, you are not innocent in this matter. Before Hamas even attacked Israel, he was trying to overhaul the judiciary in Israel, so even if Hamas didn't attack Israel, he was no saint in this matter, especially with the people he has in his Cabinet. Also, the question still has to be asked. If Hamas was really a planning a massive attack, did you know it was occuring, and if so, why didn't you do anything about it? I mean, surely if they were planning an attack, and they were training on it in plain sight, it would be easily visible, would it not? Someone in the chain of command either didn't tell them, or more likely, they did know about it, and just chose to ignore it. There clearly was a breakdown in communication.

But the settler problem is exactly why we are in this position. If settlers weren't being put on the Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, or the West Bank, do you think a lot of this wouldn't have occurred? Furthermore, his cabinet members are far-right, as are the settlers. You are asking for trouble if you thinking putting settlers in Palestine will do any good. He can be mad all he wants, but he can't face the hard truth.

There are groups in the US supported by the Israeli government that are trying to influence elections. So really, he has no right to complain. Also, I have read that Israeli military contractors have given weapons to Azerbaijan, which resulted in the retaking of Nagorno-Karabakh. So, he has a lot to answer for.

Israel as if it were a Banana Republic.

And that has ALWAYS been the case where Bibi is concerned.

Here is an OLD article where Bill Clinton, who knows what he's talking about, spells things out. Bibi & Co - specifically including ultra-RW US Jews and immigrants from the break-up of the USSR - have been harming the interests of Israel AND the US for a LONG time!
https://foreignpolicy.com/2011/09/22/bill-clinton-netanyahu-killed-the-peace-process/

A quote from Bill Clinton in the link:

"The most pro-peace Israelis are the Arabs; second the Sabras, the Jewish Israelis that were born there; third, the Ashkenazi of long-standing, the European Jews who came there around the time of Israel’s founding," Clinton said. "The most anti-peace are the ultra-religious, who believe they’re supposed to keep Judea and Samaria, and the settler groups, and what you might call the territorialists, the people who just showed up lately and they’re not encumbered by the historical record."

IMO, I would modify the quote to say that most Palestinians and Sabras are equally pro-peace.

It's the others who are intolerable and who ruin it for all.

You don't rely on Uncle Sam for protection & support? Then go it alone, Bibi. Show your Independence by denying all aid.
You take our money but not our advice.
And when you spoke to and bolstered the Republican congress against President Obama in our Capitol, weren't you meddling in & influencing our government?

A democracy doesn't behave like this, Bibi.

Going to take a while to turn this 'sister' towards the light and wash the mud off her face, if that is at all possible.

Translation: Bibi says stop complaining and criticising, just keep sending money and weapons!
