Lisa Murkowski, done with Donald Trump, won't rule out leaving GOP

Source: CNN Politics

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, aghast at Donald Trump’s candidacy and the direction of her party, won’t rule out bolting from the GOP.

The veteran Alaska Republican, one of seven Republicans who voted to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial amid the aftermath of January 6, 2021, is done with the former president and said she “absolutely” would not vote for him.

“I wish that as Republicans, we had … a nominee that I could get behind,” Murkowski told CNN. “I certainly can’t get behind Donald Trump.” The party’s shift toward Trump has caused Murkowski to consider her future within the GOP. In the interview, she would not say if she would remain a Republican.

Asked if she would become an independent, Murkowski said: “Oh, I think I’m very independent minded.” And she added: “I just regret that our party is seemingly becoming a party of Donald Trump.” Pressed on if that meant she might become an independent, Murkowski said: “I am navigating my way through some very interesting political times. Let’s just leave it at that.”

Murkowski might be worried after seeing Congresswoman Mary Peltola become the first Democrat to win two at-large elections in Alaska since the 1970s.

after the GOP ditched her in 2010 and she had her "write-in" campaign (but still as a (R)), was that she had significant support from the indigenous community there and has made them a central part of her legislative focus. But now you have an indigenous elected official and it would be interesting if Peltola tried for Dan Sullivan's seat in the Senate.

Liz Cheney made that quite clear a while back. They will always be remembered for this time and the choices they made. Their obits will be merciless and history will not be kind.

One that stayed on, after the continental US got enough of "the right sort of people" into the territory. Looking at her and her fathers histories they are Republicans, and very tied to 1950's 1960's model of the GOP, but they are probably more aware of minorities because their backgrounds put them in close contact with minorities and their political futures required taking minorities into consideration. In biology you'd call her a living fossil. A holdover from an epoch that ended everywhere else a generation ago. But you are talking SouthEast Alaska folks, it's only joined the 21st century where the cruise ships dock.

The spineless GOP never fought for their party. That's how Felonious Fuckface took control. So I don't want to hear any goddamn whining from spineless republicans who ALLOWED their current "predicament" to become a predicament.

If you (GOP) gave a damn about standing for ANYTHING, you would have stood up to him before he corrupted your GOP.

You built this bed. Now sleep in it. Quietly, because I am sick to death of your whining about something you have the power to change.

Sure, she wouldn’t vote for a lot of our bills but she’d help us keep the majority.

As far as Manchin goes, without him Biden wouldn’t have had half his judicial nominees approved.

*crickets*

Umm.... what was that hesitation? Sounds like a no on Biden to me.

So, go kick rocks, ya twit.

Anyone that says they are going to leave the GOP (NOW!?!?!? Why NOW?!?!?!?) but won't publicly commit to voting for Biden, can take their false crap elsewhere. I got better things to do than to listen to your warbling.

Now that all the headlines are about him being broke, now that the myth of his wealth has been revealed. Not very courageous, but still more courageous than the bulk of your slime dwelling chums, your party of trash. I hope you're welcomed with open arms in Limbo.

I think for determining Majority/Minority Leaders in the Senate because the numbers are close, they usually do declare who they will caucus with.

(recall that when Sinema became an (I) she did say she was still caucusing with Democrats)

Better than the vast majority of the men in her party, with the exception of Romney and Kinzinger.

I think her stance may help others decide likewise.

A little slow on the uptake, are we Lisa?

It took the third straight selection of Trump as the GOP presidential candidate for you to "seemingly" understand what has already happened.

Better late than never, I guess.
