Ronna McDaniel Will Not Appear on MSNBC Amid 'Internal Backlash' Over Her Hire at NBC News: Report

Former RNC chair Ronna McDaniel may have inked a deal to appear as a political analyst on NBC News, but she is not welcome on sister network MSNBC, a new report revealed.
According to The Wall Street Journal, MSNBC president Rashida Jones has no plans to have McDaniel on the channel, citing people familiar with the controversy.
Turmoil has reportedly enveloped the left-leaning MSNBC newsroom following Fridays announcement that McDaniel had been hired as an on-air contributor for NBC News. The Journal reported that there has been internal backlash over the hire adding that a number of MSNBC anchors and producers have voiced concern about McDaniels ties to former President Donald Trump and the RNCs role in his efforts to challenge the 2020 election results.
The New York Times first reported that McDaniel had been hired by NBC. The paper cited an internal NBC memo from politics chief Carrie Budoff Brown, who wrote, It couldnt be a more important moment to have a voice like Ronnas on the team, to provide an insiders perspective on national politics and the future of the Republican Party.

(16,975 posts)MSNBC has Nicole Wallace (r), David Jolly (r) and other nonpracticing r's (N.W.'s description of herself). It took me quite awhile to warm up to N.W. and I listen to her show, but not daily.
How do the r's that have generally passed the smell test and appear on MSNBC differ from Ronna McDaniel?
Thank you for insight.

Want to see documentation? She should be in jail for her role in the fake elector scheme, not on NBC:

(23,691 posts)If she stays, which after the debacle of the last few days is questionable, it's NBC who will be losing money. First McDaniel will be the one getting the contract and all NBC MIGHT get out of it is a few more viewers. If this was an effort to increase their viewership, they have failed. If anything, if McDaniels stays, NBC may actually lose viewers. MAGA viewers would not watch NBC if their life depended on it.
Jones who played a major role in the decision to hire Mcdaniel, may find herself out of a job.

(6,636 posts)She actively atones for having worked for George W, and is very clear sighted about what we are facing as a nation.
Her current focus is on the possibility of American autocracy, facing it head on.
She also covers women, gun safety, mental health, Ukraine, and other less-covered by corporate media topics. Goes right to the heart of things. She is that rare combination of intelligence and emotional depth. I will never forget her "Lives Well Lived" segments during Covid.

It's why I have refused to watch msnbc for years. And I used to have it on in the background with the sound off all day long. They keep shifting, and in the wrong direction.

(110 posts)Although I do like and believe Nicolle Wallace, I don't trust the rest of the MSNBC Republicons.
Andrea Mitchell, Michael Steele, Chuck Todd, Stephanie Ruhle, Joe Scarborough.....
MSNBC tried to shove Greta Van Susteren on us, and she lasted about two weeks.
Isn't it funny how they get all tough with Democrats and weak kneed with Republicons? That's because Dems will tolerate their questions, and not threaten their careers or lives.
Although I do like Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell, I stopped watching MSNBC long ago. Their corporate game is obvious, and their insistence on hiring Republicon pundits - despite their audience shows management's true colors.
Not to mention, I cannot take another moment of Deadbeat Donald the Traitor's 24/7 coverage. Some of it needs to be done for sure, but I simply cannot stomach listening and watching about him anymore.
Novara
(5,843 posts)It's real news, and not opinion. It's actually pretty damned refreshing to watch. It isn't sensationalist bullshit, and it isn't 24/7 pundits spouting opinions. They don't have "stars;" just people who are professionals at telling you the facts. And they even do a feel-good story here and there. It's almost what news used to be like.
If your carrier doesn't have it, they have an app for your phone and one for streaming TV.
For me, it is the antidote to constant Don Poorleone coverage 24/7 and a constant BREAKING NEWS banner when what they're talking about broke days ago (I fucking can't stand that sort of sensationalism).
I highly recommend Scripps News for anyone who is sick of sensationalist reporting and constant opinion bullshit masquerading as news.
nbc station is Scripps news affiliate. They show some of their reports, but its mostly local news. Its the station I watch most often.

Mika and Joe shed their Trump costumes and became rabid anti-Trumpers, Andrea continued to spout Hillary hate, and Chuck, not one to give up access to the Trump White House, played host to any and all MAGA cretins, again with no follow-up or pushback....
and now you have Kristen Welker giving Trump apologist and election denier Ronna McDaniel (newly repentant for a shit-ton of cash) a platform to vomit her crap mea culpas...give me a fucking break!

(50,950 posts)Many if not most times Nicole prefaces Trump's name with the following,
or in the case of the twice-impeached, disgraced, now-indicted ex-president.
Some of the fill-ins for her do the same.
There is no reason to provide voice to those that support the overthrow of the government as Ronna McDaniel did. And none of the Republicans (former in some cases now) that appear on the show do. There is enough opposing views that a scumbag like Ronna does not need to be included.

(4,168 posts)As even an infrequent listener to Nicole (I like her, but bad time of day for me), I can't count the number of times that she has spontaneously expressed her extreme regret for having been a Republican. She left the party well before the current craziness became normalized, out of principle and not as grab for commercial interests.
Even Hillary Clinton was a Republican at one time, so just how long do you want to still keep calling them Republicans after they've left the party?

The fact that their company hired someone who belongs in prison for an attempted coup just tells me I made the right choice.

And then there is Michael Steele who was also a RNC Chairperson 2007-2011.
So adding conservative/Republican personalities to their list of contributors and anchors is nothing new. But McDaniel was a bridge too far.
If I was her after this morning appearance and the follow up with Chucky Todd and Kimberly Atkins Stohr I wouldn't want to show my face in that studio ever again. She was absolutely demolished. I would disappear.

(151 posts)Keith Olbermann has talked about the higher ups quite a bit on his show as he's worked for a lot of networks. Some of the networks have hired him back - sometimes more than once.
He describes how the higher ups can be totally out of touch. Keith doesn't try to explain the why's of it so much as give a very good behind the scenes account of the goings on. And then he lets the audience infer from that.
So, at the meeting to decide about hiring Ronna... Do you think they might've said:
"Wow, look how smart we are!"
"How lucky we are to be able to get Ronna on our network!"
"They will all thank us later!"

(14,577 posts)Welker interviewed McDaniel and did a pretty good job, fact checking all along.
Then Chuck Todd came on and in spite of his disgusting record of bothsiderism and general craven spinelessness, stood tall today. Here is what he said, quoted from Politico:
Let me deal with the elephant in the room. I think our bosses owe you an apology for putting you in this situation, Todd told Meet the Press host Kristen Welker, who previously interviewed McDaniel, during a subsequent panel discussion.
That was good. Todd excoriated NBC for actually paying McDaniel as a consultant, and cast her entire pack of lies into question by asking whether she was speaking for herself, NBC or the Republican Party.
And then the panel of reporters continued the excoriation of McDaniel.
I thought it was pretty good for MtP.
