Democrats ramp up attacks on RFK Jr.: 'He should be ashamed of himself'

Source: The Hill

03/26/24 5:37 PM ET

Democrats are stepping up their criticism of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. after he announced his pick of Nicole Shanahan for vice president Tuesday, arguing the duo will benefit former President Trump.

Kennedy’s allies say the selection of Shanahan, a philanthropist and patent attorney, will generate buzz for the campaign heading into the general election, while also allowing him to check a necessary box in several states that require an Independent to have a running mate to qualify for their ballots.

But many pro-Biden figures in the party are criticizing Kennedy as a “spoiler” propelled by GOP funds and conspiracy theories, slamming his presidential campaign shortly after he unveiled his running mate in Oakland, Calif.

“I am personally offended and just disgusted by his campaign,” said Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) during a call hosted by the Democratic National Committee (DNC). “He should be ashamed of himself. He should stop running for president.”

He hinted he might due to difficulties getting on state ballots. If he does, he’s on all 50 states. Stay tuned for that development.

By Kennedy’s pro Israel stance. Says he likes most of Kennedy’s other policy ideas but that his support for Israel was a deal breaker with Libertarians. Kennedy says he has enough volunteers in each state to collect signatures to get on 50 state ballots. . A well known photographer in NM is on Facebook - all over northern NM getting signatures.

Anyone who votes third party either is ignorant how Presidents are elected, or believes they are a protest vote, and the only thing they will accomplish is a spoiler vote.

a vanity campaign. He doesn't have any refreshing new ideas. And he's using his family's name as a legacy.

His candidacy is not enhancing the spirit and the principles of Democracy.

He wants to get all the top people & big Pharma out of NIH, NIAID, FDA, CDC etc. and clean up the chemicals in our food & environment. He is talking about spending money studying chronic disease in US. People liked him because he gave an anti war talk like he was a peace candidate and THEN when the Israel/Palestine war happened - he suddenly was super pro Israel & no longer anti war. A total turn around. He then lost a lot of previous anti war support. . Of my friends, I notice my Republican friends are more in support of Israel & Kennedy than my Dem friends. I do have a few Dem acquaintances who are volunteers for his campaign though.

Not to win, but to siphon a large number of votes.

A lot of people around here are discounting him. I’m telling you, he could end up pulling as many votes as Perot.

You mean a huge number of CT-humping "anti-vaxxers"?

There is a segment of the far far left who are anti-vax because they are "anti-big corporation" (often in the Socialist end of spectrum) and at least among the anti-corporates, they have other choices out there like Cornell West or even the Greens. But those folks weren't going to vote for an (what they often derisively dub) "establishment Democrat" anyway.

either here on DU or in the media, will bring up and emphasize the BIG group that DOES pull from the GOP and that is the Libertarian Party.

Here in PA, a "swing state", the largest "3rd party" voting block WAS the Libertarian Party.

2016

2020

Even the Russian asset Jill Stein, whose numbers did pull from (D)s and who was supported by some DUers back then (including some who were Greens), got nowhere near "15%" of the vote.
