Settlement reached in lawsuit between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Disney
Source: Associated Press
In a meeting, the members of the board of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District approved the settlement agreement, ending almost two years of litigation that was sparked by DeSantis takeover of the district from Disney supporters following the companys opposition to Floridas so-called Dont Say Gay law.
The 2022 law bans classroom lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity in early grades and was championed by DeSantis, who used Disney as a punching bag in speeches until he suspended his presidential campaign this year.
As punishment for Disneys opposition, DeSantis took over the governing district through legislation passed by the Republican-controlled Florida Legislature and appointed a new board of supervisors. Disney sued DeSantis and his appointees, claiming the companys free speech rights were violated for speaking out against the legislation. A federal judge dismissed that lawsuit in January.

(52,238 posts)Maybe this is just formal approval from the oversight board?
Or is this a different but related matter?

(32,009 posts)The Disney World oversight board installed by DeSantis accused its predecessor of using an 11th-hour agreement to sharply curtail the new boards powers and bolster the companys control over the Florida-based amusement park.
The settlement declares that actions taken by the former Reedy Creek special taxing district days before it was taken over by DeSantis appointees would be null and void. That included a long-lasting development agreement that would have greatly limited what the new board could do.

(1,990 posts)Why would they(Disney) agree that the changes made by the former Reedy Creek district would be "null and void"? What did Disney get in return?

(2,168 posts)Other than for feeding his Napolean complex, he's not running for President and not running for Governor again. No one will even remember when he tries to do something in the future. He'll probably tout himself as the most Pro-Disney governor EVER if it helps what ever his cause is, repukes have very short, pliable memories and little need for facts.
