Settlement reached in lawsuit between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Disney

Source: Associated Press

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Allies of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Disney reached a settlement agreement Wednesday in a lawsuit over who controls Walt Disney World’s governing district.

In a meeting, the members of the board of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District approved the settlement agreement, ending almost two years of litigation that was sparked by DeSantis’ takeover of the district from Disney supporters following the company’s opposition to Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law.

The 2022 law bans classroom lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity in early grades and was championed by DeSantis, who used Disney as a punching bag in speeches until he suspended his presidential campaign this year.

As punishment for Disney’s opposition, DeSantis took over the governing district through legislation passed by the Republican-controlled Florida Legislature and appointed a new board of supervisors. Disney sued DeSantis and his appointees, claiming the company’s free speech rights were violated for speaking out against the legislation. A federal judge dismissed that lawsuit in January.

4. I think this was more about how far the oversight board's authority extended into Disney.

... but I can't find any details about the settlement.

All I can find is this repeated, but no details of what the agreement means.

6. Yes, on odd numbered days from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am, but never in writing.

If you noticed that means the time-of-day constraint contradicts the "odd days only" constraint, you're too clever and observant to be here in the first place and since that's that, why would you care? Are you g_y?

5. More on the settlement

The Disney World oversight board installed by DeSantis accused its predecessor of using an 11th-hour agreement to sharply curtail the new board’s powers and bolster the company’s control over the Florida-based amusement park.

The settlement declares that actions taken by the former Reedy Creek special taxing district days before it was taken over by DeSantis appointees would be “null and void.” That included a long-lasting development agreement that would have greatly limited what the new board could do.

Why would they(Disney) agree that the changes made by the former Reedy Creek district would be "null and void"? What did Disney get in return?

8. The article says the parties go back to the terms of the 2020 plan.

From the OP article:

Instead, a comprehensive plan from 2020 will be used with the new board able to make changes to it, and the agreement suggests Disney and the new board will negotiate a new development agreement in the near future.

9. Sounds like a win for Disney. They go back to the 2020 plan that existed before the DeSantis kerfuffle.

Other than for feeding his Napolean complex, he's not running for President and not running for Governor again. No one will even remember when he tries to do something in the future. He'll probably tout himself as the most Pro-Disney governor EVER if it helps what ever his cause is, repukes have very short, pliable memories and little need for facts.

...but now the State of Florida taxpayers have to pay for trash, roadways, maintenance?
