Members of self-proclaimed anti-government group 'God's Misfits' held in killings of Kansas women

Source: AP

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Two Kansas women who vanished as they tried to pick up children for a birthday party two weeks ago were killed over a custody dispute involving a group of anti-government Oklahomans calling themselves “God’s Misfits,” authorities said Monday.

Their vehicle was found March 30 along a rural Oklahoma highway with ample evidence of a bloody confrontation, setting off a multi-agency effort to secure the children’s safety while searching for the women and avoiding more violence.

Veronica Butler, 27, and Jilian Kelley, 39, of Hugoton, Kansas, had arranged with the grandmother of Butler’s two children to meet at a highway intersection on the morning of March 30 and pick up the 6- and 8-year-old.

“This case did not end the way we had hoped. It’s certainly been a tragedy for everyone involved,” Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Director Aungela Spurlock said.

Edit Title: Cimarron County, not Texas County.

GOP and on Board of Directors of local hospital as well as being in a rightwing nut job "Christian" sovereign citizen group. TA is a grandmother that cared for two children of a custody dispute. The mother of the children and a required witness for a visitation that turned out to be a planned murder trap. The witness, also murdered, is a pastor's wife with four children, who was packing a gun in her purse that is missing. Really a dumb group of murderers.

The 16 year old daughter of the other woman arrested, "Cora" (and stepdaughter of one of men arrested "Cole&quot , went to police in Kerrick, Texas and turned them in. While the daughter was being interviewed by LE, her stepfather showed up in Kerrick with a holstered sidearm and tried to make the stepdaughter leave with him. The couple had brought back a vehicle that had been used in the multiple murders and had the daughter clean the vehicle and otherwise were open to her about what had occurred.

There is much at the Websleuths site. Been reading over past several days as so weird.

Suspect in death of 2 Kansas women was Cimarron County GOP chair

State Sen. Nathan Dahm, who is the chairman of the Oklahoma GOP, spoke out on Tuesday on the tragic situation and the suspect's position

The case of two mothers who vanished in the Oklahoma Panhandle captured the attention of the nation.

Four people were charged with the murder and kidnapping of Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley, one of them being the paternal grandmother of Butler's kids. Tifany Adams, who was arrested this weekend, was in a custody battle with Butler for those children, according to court documents.

KOCO 5 has confirmed Adams has ties to the Oklahoma Republican Party and was elected last year as the chair for the Cimarron County GOP. She was chosen by a handful of people to lead the group.
