Video shows girl, 15, battered in Florida juvenile prison

A guard at a Northwest Florida juvenile prison was jailed after a tape showed the abuse of a teen. Now she is back on the job.

A guard at a juvenile prison found herself behind bars this week after she was caught on tape battering a teenage detainee.

Although the encounter got Shannon Linn Abbott arrested, it didn’t get her fired. The 33-year-old bailed out and was back on the job right afterward and supervising children, to the extreme dismay of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

On Tuesday, a DJJ administrator formally asked the privately managed youth prison’s director to remove the guard from all access to children.

“It is our expectation, at the very least, that this staff member will have no contact with youth in any of our programs,” wrote Laura K. Moneyham, a DJJ assistant secretary.

as to why this is so FUBAR, and why there is only a very marginal amount
of accountability to the public.

The private sector has no business running jails and prisons. Imprisoning
citizens is an inherently and necessarily PUBLIC function, that should
NEVER be "privatized" for precisely this very reason: more direct accountability
to the public that is PAYING the bill for these institutions with their taxes.

Not in the article, but you've got to admit, it's the (R) catch-all excuse for anything and everything.

I hope the kids end up owning the prison.

The worker was likely doing exactly what the employer wanted (though that would never be admitted)

Unbelievable, kept hoping one of the assholes who entered the room would smack that bitch and make her get up and nobody gave a shit. Would have loved to have sound so we could have heard that bitch and the woman in the chair talk about their - well I can't think of anything those two would remotely have in common - can you? People in and out, nobody cares, the 15 year old literally is motionless for a half hour. And we wonder why young people are so disenchanted that they do what happened here this week at Clackamas Town Center. You gotta have HOPE if nothing else, and if every adult in your life fucks you over then .........

I hope the young girl is okay and I hope that someone somewhere has a little heart and fires Abbott.

Actually, what really should happen is all the women involved lose their jobs, but the best outcome would be to close these bully factories.
