FLINT, MI -- On the same day thousands of union members protested right-to-work legislation in Lansing, a plaque in memory of one of the union movement's most famous victories was found defaced.
Green paint now covers the gold letters on both sides of a historic site marker for the Flint Sit-Down Strike.
The marker describes events that took place in 1936-37 and that led to recognition of the UAW by General Motors.

"It's a great disrespect for the Sit-downers because they, as much as anybody, were responsible for the great American middle class," said Art Reyes, president of UAW Local 651. "It's just a shame that someone in Flint, knowing the history we have here, would go forward and do something like that."

and my grandmother took food to the strikers and handed it in to them through the windows. It sucks that anyone in Flint would deface a monument to the legacy of those workers.
