Shooting At Newtown Elementary School

Source: Hartford-Courant

NEWTOWN—

State police are responding to a report of a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dickinson Drive, school officials said. Police are reporting a number of injured parties. The nature of their injuries is not clear. There are unconfirmed reports of two shooters — one dead, one still at large.

Shortly after 9:40 a.m., police reported that a shooter was in the main office of the school.

Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were being escorted away from the school by their teachers.

A staging area has been set up for students and their parents near the school.

To regulate the guns without regulating the lying and constant preaching of violence that comes from Fox and the thousands of radio outlets that do little more than make anybody who disagrees with the speaker into a Satan worthy of being shot down will not solve the problem.

There are always going to be the crazies out there, and if you have these public radio stations and TV channels constantly churning out hate and ideas calculated to turn even the half-sane among us into irrational robots of hate, you're going to have horrors like this happen. Events like this do not happen in a vacuum. They are mulled over, fantasized, justified within, and slowly turned into reality.

There are two parts to the problem: the guns and the mind-set of the people who use the guns. There have to be ways of dealing with both.

We cannot trust our fellow citizens. We are all potential terrorists and shooters.

More power to those in charge, less to us, for our own good!

Kind of like my neighborhood watch - we have learned that minorities do most the crime (and crime is all we report on each day when it comes to them - helping others, feeding the homeless, giving folks rides, etc...well that does not make for news that people will use for fear and to talk about) so we are calling on all non-minorities to get educated about what to look for, raise funds to buy up empty houses before the criminals do, etc.

Gotta run, have to send out a tweet to my watch friends, just saw a minority with some skittles and they too may have a gun (and we all know, if you have a gun you will kill someone).

If you have a gun, you may not kill someone by shooting them, but you might. If you don't have a gun, there's 100% chance you won't kill someone by shooting them, but you may kill someone by other means, but it will only be one at a time, and will require a lot more effort (and stronger homocidal tendencies) than simply moving one finger.

BTW if your gov't and Romney wanted to kill you, they would. It wouldn't take loads of guns. Hell, YOU could have most of the guns. The rich and the powerful will always find a way to do away with you, if they so choose. It's a silly argument that doesn't hold water in this day and age.

It never fails to amaze me, how people don't realize how easy it is for someone to go online and find recipes for bombs that could kill a lot more people than a fully automatic gun.

Look at the soldiers coming back with massive head injuries from roadside bombs.

Hell, look at how Bin Laden killed so many people, with his minions using nothing more than carton cutters to take over planes.

Bottom line: Mentally ill people who want to kill a lot of other people will do so. Guns are only ONE choice of weapon. Many others exist. You can't ban everything.

The only real solution is to get help for mentally ill people before they snap.

and thus require someone with more commitment and deeper convictions to kill. It would nearly stop all 'passion killings'. And it would save lives, and, IMO, every single one of those kids deserved that chance, at least.

Your 'real solution' is no solution at all - most people are sane - until they're not. People who 'snap' often are 'fine' up until the point they 'snap'. There is more correlation with sex and mass murders than there is with mental illness and mass murders. Maybe the way to stop this is to only let females have guns. (that's about as much sense as your argument makes)

Tea Party leaning SCOTUS forced an insane 5-4 decision onto the American public with Heller, the crazies in the nation interpreted that as a vindication of their romance with guns. All that Heller actually "settled" was the right to have a gun in the home -- which few really oppose in the first place. The "guns everywhere" society of right-wing red necked politicians and their slobbering sheep have since used Heller as an excuse to attempt to legislate away the last 100 years of gun regulation sanity.

Our very own Gungeon crowd is proof of this madness, and that they are allowed to spew their love of violence, vigilantism, and summary executions on DU is beyond belief. And now Florida is bragging about being the first state to allow over 1 million red necks to carry concealed guns in public.

At some point public outrage about daily occurrences of acts gun violence such as this one will turn the tide, and sanity will begin to once again prevail. Until then, please support organizations like the Brady Center, and Mayors Against Illegal Guns in order to counter this insane rush to legalize murder and violence.

62. The issue is NOT that we need gun control, but what type
Fri Dec 14, 2012, 05:17 PM
Dec 2012

And that is where the battle is being fought. No one is saying everyone should have access to weapons, even the NRA says Felons and the Insane should NOT have access. On the other hand NO one is advocating a complete ban for the complete ban will force Police officers (if they are allowed to keep guns) to do what is done by civilians today, including various types of animal control. No one can afford that, outside some urban areas, thus the two extremes are untenable. The real issue is where in the middle should the law be,

I have been told I am a radical, I believe the Assault Weapon Ban and the ban on automatic weapons clearly violate the Second Amendment, for the bans prohibits people from arming themselves if they form they own militia units.

On the other hand, I do NOT believe the Second, as it is written, prohibits bans on pistols, for pistols have limited military usability. The problem is both the Majority on the Supreme Court AND the dissent on the Supreme Court both rejected that position for both more feared an armed rebellion (that can be done with rifles and other "long arms" and requires people to work together) then criminal activity (95% of all crimes with firearms are done with pistols).

The reason pistols are used in crime and Rifles are not is simple, it is hard to conceal a rifle and when people see a person with a rifle, they have time to take precautions.

Thus, without changing a word of the Second Amendment, pistols can be banned if the Court would just accept that the second is what is says, the right of the people to bear arms so that they can be formed into a Militia OR form themselves into a Militia if needed. In such units you want rifles and shotguns not pistols, thus the Second should be restricted to rifles and shotguns for they are the preferred weapon if we ever do need to form up the reserved militia (which is every male between the ages of 18 and 45 by Federal Law),

China school knife attack in Henan injures 22 children
14 December 2012
A man with a knife has wounded 22 children - at least two of them seriously - and an adult at a primary school in central China.

The attack happened at the gate of a school in Chenpeng village in Henan province.

Police arrested a 36-year-old local man at the scene.

Security at China's schools has been increased in recent years following a spate of similar knife attacks in which nearly 20 children have been killed.

The shooter's mother was found dead in the home which she shared with her son, about five miles from the Sandy Hook Elementary School, but she had no affiliation with the school, at all.

Thus you have to decide who is NOT a citizen, for being a member of the Militia is part of being a Citizen. The only way to strip people of their position in the Militia is to strip them of their Citizenship.

Just so horrible.

72. Isn't it bit too late to have any hope of actual gun control?

With some 300 million guns in the country how in the hell could it ever be controlled. People are not buying less guns. In my state they just published how gun sales have gone ballistic. The same with Right-to-Carry permits. It is difficult for me to have to accept that elementary schools need high tech security to protect little children. I guess I am just to damn old to grasp what has taken place in our nation.
