Look at how many tax brackets there are, compared to the few we have now. Observe how tax rates continued to rise, rather than stop at a pretty low amount, $380000.

Look at how much higher capital gains rates have historically been, taxes basically on the rich, on old money.

And check out how low the rate were just before the last depression, just like they were low before this depression. Correlation? Good chance redistribution keeps us from going into depression, it seems, and low taxes for the rich seems to push us into depressions.

Do not take any deal that does not raise a significant amount of revenue, minimize program cuts to the greatest extent possible, and take away the Republicans' ability to play football with the debt ceiling.

one other option if they both don't come to a Deal. Let the country go off the Cliff and let the people decide what they want. The sequestrian cuts do represent a Deficit cutting Deal, although nobody likes it. It will be the same medicine if one or the other side got their way anyway.

The sequestrian cuts will slice the military significantly and the U.S. would have to reduce their commits overseas, plus reduce bases in a lot of states. That will hurt the Districts of a lot of red states. The Administration gets to pick the base closing unless some Republicans want to make a Deal with the President.

Taxes will go up on everyone, unless the Republicans want to make a Deal to cut some taxes, but you will get a lot of revenues in the meantime. The country according to them will go into recession again but only for a short time.

All it will do is let the public decide if they want to get rid of Social Security, Medicare,and Medicaid, if the Republicans will honesty run on that platform and quit lying in the Election. The Democrats can run on not cutting those programs and let the country decide. President Obama doesn't have to make the choice. He should move on to other issues like immigration for the rest of his term. The Fiscal cuts already gives him the authority to leave Afghanistan because of military cuts.

If thy did what Boehner wants, it will hurt the country, the same as the sequestrian cuts in but just spending on what he calls wasteful. His cuts would increase poverty and slash public Federal jobs while giving the wealthy more welfare. It will also keep the military spending at a high level. So he wants revenue off the backs of the middle class and poor.

President Obama wants it off the wealthy, while protecting the middleclass and poor. His plan is more responsible as is. So no matter what you do, somebody will feel the pain, it is just a matter who will. The sequestrian does both, only it will hurt the republicans more because of increased taxes and less military spending. The Democrats will only feel the pain with increased unemployment for a few months and increased poverty for those out of work without Government assistance, unless the States decide to provide for their citizens out of work. Social Security,Medicare and Medicaid would remain the same with the sequestrian cuts also because it doesn't affect those.

So, he can do just nothing, and let voters decide in 2014 or 2016 which party they want if the Republicans just man up and quit lying in Elections what they want to cut. Apparently both Parties disagree. The Democrats are for maintaining Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and the Repukes want to get rid of them, plain and simple.
