Newt Gingrich On Mitt Romney: 'I Would Have Probably Done Better' Against Obama

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- Newt Gingrich blames Mitt Romney for being a bad candidate.

More than that, he blames the Republican party for fostering a corrosive culture that produced Romney as its candidate. The former House Speaker argued that the GOP has grown stale and introverted, putting itself on the wrong side of history on issues like immigration and painting itself into a corner on others, like gay marriage.

...snip...

Gingrich, whose staying power in the Republican primary has surprised many observers, was Romney's most acerbic critic during that intraparty contest. He would go on to play the role of dutiful soldier during the general election, only to revert back to form a month and a half after the national contest ended with Romney losing handily.

"I think either [Texas Gov. Rick] Perry or I would have probably done better [against Obama]," said the former speaker, exhibiting a bit of his trademark braggadocio.

I doubt he'd have done any better than Mittens. He's just as awful, but a different sort of awful; he wears his lunacy on his sleeve, while Mittens concealed it under a hard plastic shell.

Nerdy note: 'Super-Jovian' refers to planets larger than the planet Jupiter in our solar system, or to super-sized egos like Newt's.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich‘s campaign owes creditors close to $5 million, according to his Sept. 30 filing with the Federal Election Campaign.

Gingrich, who used private planes and luxury hotels throughout his failed bid for the Presidency, managed to pile on another 50 grand in debt after his campaign ended, the reports reveal.

“Newt live large on other people’s money,” GOP strategist Al Waring tells Capitol Hill Blue. “That has always been his style.”

The overdue bills from the Gingrich campaign bills include fees for advertising, ballot fees, event expenses, consulting, legal fees, telemarketing, travel and web hosting. Gingrich also stiffed some states when his checks for ballot fees bounced.

Perry was a joke as a candidate.

If Republicans wouldn't vote for Newt in the primary what makes him think that he could have done any better in the general election. In fact, Newt is showing here just why he didn't win. Maybe if Adleson would have put his money behind Santorum the Republicans would have had a different candidate but still not a winner in November.

That implies he may not fully believe it himself... and I suspect he does. It is almost a compliment to say that Gingrich is basically full of hot air, when in reality, I think the truth is closer to that he's delusional. Grandeur and otherwise.

In the 1st debate, Willard utilized a tactic that Newt excels at: spewing bullshit. And it worked, for a bit, to shift the momentum of the race.

Gingrich practically invented the Gish Gallop. He can spread hundreds of lies in a limited amount of time all the while sounding authoritative and professorial. The key is, as George Costanza said, "It's not a lie if you believe it."

Gingrich is an unattractive, old, overweight, morally repugnant man, but he's a better liar and propagandist than prettty-boy Romney ever was.
