Sleeping homeless woman set on fire outside Los Angeles drug store

Source: NBC News

LOS ANGELES - A woman sleeping on a street bench outside a drug store was doused with an accelerant and set on fire early Thursday morning in Van Nuys, a district of Los Angeles.

Witnesses told police that a man poured liquid -- possibly a beverage containing alcohol -- on the sleeping woman at about 1 a.m. outside a Walgreens store near Van Nuys Boulevard and Sherman Way. He lit a match and ran from the location, witnesses told police.

The woman, who is in her 60s, was hospitalized in critical condition. The victim will likely be transported to a Sherman Oaks burn center for treatment, police said.

"It was like when you pour gasoline on something -- like an explosion," said witness Erickson Ipina, who added that he often saw the homeless woman in the neighborhood.

No words can express my contempt for the bastard that did this.. Oh ya!! lets have more guns in this sick society!! That's the answer!!

Probably some clown that listens to right wing radio and is just outraged at how the homeless have it so easy and are taking advantage "honest decent people"!

Remember when Rush used to make fun of homeless people?

I hope this woman recovers and someone starts a charity for her..

Well I see they have taken someone into custody..

Oh, and while you're all full of contempt and such, why don't YOU start a charity for her?

Not consistently.

Is Dubya suffering for having lied us into war?

Are the Koch brothers suffering from the consequences of their actions?

Is Scott Walker suffering in Wisconsin? He didn't even lose his office.

Karma is how you tell people to sit down, shut up, and not get upset at injustice because the universe will surely make it right.

It doesn't.

Was that Karma too?

The universe is random. It doesn't care about us. Any "Karma" we experience is dumb luck.

If you want justice, you have to make it.

Wow, so I thought I have seen this story before, and yes I googled it and this is the second homeless person set on fire in LA.
They have a suspect in custody on the woman,so I hope that is the same person. kind of scary to think there is more than one person running around LA setting people on fire.

"There was no incident or dispute or clear motivation for this horrific attack. He did not know his victim. It defies explanation," Albanese said. "He is not of sound mind.... The motive is mental illness."

How about just plain mean? The attacker is not necessarily "mentally ill".
