Man thinks burglars are outside, shoots up home

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Kevin Cole

A 29-year-old Blair man was taken into emergency protective custody Sunday night after he allegedly shot up his home with a shotgun because he thought burglars were outside.

Capt. Kevin Willis of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the man was taken into custody without incident, and no injuries were reported. Willis declined to release the name of the man, whom he characterized as being “very distraught” because he thought burglars were trying to break into his home.

The man, who was alone, was taken into custody without incident about 15 minutes after law enforcement officers arrived on the scene. He was taken to an Omaha hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

Deputies were called to the Country Estates Mobile Home Park about a half mile south of Blair at 11:45 p.m. after someone called 911 to report numerous shots being fired. Willis said deputies reported hearing several shots fired as they set up a perimeter and began to evacuate neighbors.

And the guns that protect the guns need guns to protect them, and so on.

It's the NRA's wet dream - infinite gun sales.

Sad. I'm by no means an expert on psychology (not even close), but it's possible he had schizophrenia, or something like that.

I could only imagine how scary that must be - both for the person and those around them - to have hallucinations and try to act out against them.

And absolutely crazy that such an unstable guy has access to a firearm. What if people were passing on the street outside and got hit? Definitely more background checks are necessary...

He saved himself, and parts of his home (you know, not the shot-up parts), and most of all, he saved his gun, which is probably what the burglars were after, 'cause you know he doesn't own anything else of value.

Then again, he might have shot up his own home because some raccoons got into the garbage. What a dumbass. So, hero, dumbass, mentally deranged--hard to tell, hard to tell.
