RNC chairman thinks presidential campaign should be 4 years

Source: WISN 12 News

MADISON, Wis. —The Republican National Committee chairman told WISN 12 News reporter Kent Wainscott what he believes went wrong in the Mitt Romney presidential campaign.

"In a nine-month operation, which is basically what the Romney team put together and the RNC, I think they ran a great campaign -- a nine-month campaign. But the problem was the other side ran a four-year campaign, a pretty good four-year campaign," Reince Priebus said. "I think from all the conclusions you can draw from the campaign, I think the one that's pretty safe is, we need to be a four-year operation. We can't do a three-year buildup and a one-year campaign and then a tear-down."

President Obama ran a "4 year" campaign for re-election...attempting to do what is correct for most Americans, the country and world.

The Puking/Bagger types have now decided they need a "4-year" campaign...after spending the last 4 years, blocking, stopping, halting, crying, LYING, cheating, thieving, obstructing, filibustering....

And they are already doing the same now...so, exactly how would their campaign be any different from today until 2016?????

only those other people think would be good?

Someone like Sean Penn actually have walked the walk
Penn basically has given up his life 90% of the year for political causes

Pitt has worked for causes for a long time now
Clooney has financed alot of benefits

not enough democrats seem to want to run for house and senate
there should be one big star for each position

sort of like a mediator/arbitrator
something Sean Penn could do very well.

it is like people who say SCOTUS needs to be a lawyer. No, no requirement, nor need for that.
Usually it now is, but it don't need to be

just some one to listen and mediate between two warring factions

Someone like Hillary was perfect, had the gravitas to do it.Nobel Prize type.
Madeleine Albright was another great choice.
Those two make the job.
Others can be just a sort of messenger for the President
over the years we have had both.

National Security Adviser to Carter Zbigniew Brzezinski would have made a great SOS, one of the best foreign affairs person DC ever had.(wish we could get him back. Nobody died on Carter's watch. But he is few and far between).
Vance was good too, but...

but Treasury secretary-now there is a position that needs someone like Timothy Geithner.
You gotta play with the big boys and know how things work
Joe Average citizen cannot do that job.
Many people don't like Tim(and I think I know the real reason), but I do. He has done a great job and will be sad to see him go.

But i am serious when talking about Hillary45 and Michelle46.
Hope Michelle runs for senate in Illinois in a few years, and goes up from there to the Presidency.
She is just as great a talent as her husband, and Michelle could have been on her own
same as Hillary just as famous politically.
Both are Eleanor Roosevelt talented. (and neither a Jackie Kennedy glam type).
being that Jackie was most certainly not a people person like all the others in her family were.

Mitt declared that he was running in July 2011 ..... and he had been running for
at least since 2010 when he was hanging around Iowa and putting together a
campaign staff.

The Iowa straw poll was in August 2011 too. Almost a full 15 months before the
election.

People were campaigning in New Hampshire in Nov., Dec., Jan, and Feb. too.

Please RNC keep this guy as chairman he is really smart.

To be honest, after the 8 years of disaster that the idiot Bush unleashed on America, even 4 years of campaigning probably won't be enough for the GOP to convince Americans to buy into their bs.

the last thing we need is a 4 year campaign

first off, the only way that can happen is for the 1% to fund it... and if that's the case, then that is saying that the only Americans who count are the extremely wealthy who think they can buy government.

secondly, mittiot had been running for 6 years and it still did him no good. The country has spoken loudly and clearly that they are not interested in the cures the thug party has for what they believe ails it.

thirdly, if they ran a moderate candidate like Jon Huntsman, then perhaps they would have had half a chance--but when they allowed the extremes of their party that much air time and platform, they saw what it got them.

There are far more of us than there are of them.

People barely knew who Barack Obama was in 2008, him and John McCain had the same amount of time to campaign then and Obama still won. Has the RNC let alone any republicans ever wondered maybe it's the candidate, or the message they send, or their policy ideas etc. that turn people off? They should keep this up maybe a dem will win again in 2016 hell possibly in 2020.

22. Well, he's right, but so what?
Tue Jan 8, 2013, 06:03 PM

Yeah, Obama is one of the shrewder politicians in a long time, and yeah, Obama basically did the stuff that incumbents do to position themselves to win reelection. And yeah, that's one of the reasons it is hard to beat an incumbent who does a halfway decent job, and the party not in power needs to be aware of that and start the campaign at the end of the previous election.

But that's the job of the Party Chairman. He or she begins campaigning from the beginning. They handle the media, try to get favorable coverage for their party and bad coverage for the other team, etc. But even with FOX News campaigning hardcore (and the other networks campaigning softcore) for the Republicans continually for those four years, the Republicans couldn't win.

Why? Well, a few reasons. One, because they never tried to develop a message beyond "Obama can't do anything because we won't let him." Two, because their candidate in the end began campaigning on different issues than the ones the RNC had been promoting for four years. Three, because the RNC never really had a vision that anyone would consider better, even if they didn't like Obama's vision. Basically, they campaigned for four years on the implied slogan "Vote for us, we're white guys." They ran out of white guys that that worked for.

So I agree with him. One of the reasons Obama won was because he never stopped campaigning. He mastered to social media in the way the Republicans used to control the email and whisper media, and for four years used it to promote himself, undercut criticisms, and destroy the other guys. Kind of the way a campaign is run. Priebus (Sorry if it seems childish to use his name instead of some slur about male anatomy, but I'm still working out why calling him Penis is supposed to be funny) recognizes a finely run machine when he sees one. Now he's complaining because he didn't have the skill to run one of his own.
