The nursing home has a van or they pay a van company to transport us.

Every van driver has Rush on the radio.

Mom's nursing home has cable TV. Among the channels they carry CNN and FOX. No MSNBC.

Forget about going to any church during election season.

My sister's church minister preaches politics from the pulpit.
My sister had to stop going to church during election season. Think she started going again now.

Guest ministers visit Mom's nursing home to preach, and preach politics from the pulpit.
I stopped going with Mom to church service at the nursing home.
Mom tells me she goes to church service in the morning, on weekdays.

I don't enjoy talking politics much around here.
Always run into a brainwashed religious zealot with total faith in the "fair and balanced" news.
Also run into lots of religious people with very strong convictions about homosexuality.

Haven't figured out how ND voted Heidi Heitkamp in. At least she has a (D) after her name.

I say Moorhead is purple. Think Moorhead's purple because of the colleges.
Lots of Democratic signs near the college campuses.
Lots of Republican signs other places.

Lots of people don't even know what the labels mean, Andy"liberal" has been turned into a dirty word. The only valid survey asks people what they believe. I suspect that the rankings wouldn't change much, but lots of surveys show Americans are fairly liberal on a lot of issues. For example, gay marriage approval is over 50%. (Please don't ask me for a link! I'm still drinking my coffee!)

Not a shocker but there are quite a few blue dot stickers around Bham and Huntsville has their progressives, just not enough to outnumber the bat shit.

The area I'm in the Teapublicans are delusional and preach Faux news in public.

They think Billo is the second coming of Moses and descends from the mountains with all his truth and gospel.

I'm originally from Wyoming ... I have lived in Colorado for a couple of decades-plus now.

I have family and many friends in Wyoming with whom I still visit and communicate.

'Conservative' is hardly the word to describe the politics and culture for the vast majority of Wyomingites.

It is a right-wing, reactionary cult existing in that state.

Sad to say that Wyoming is a pretty much self-isolated place ... there isn't any progressive radio, hardly any progressive publications of any sort, the Democratic Party balances on non-existence, peer pressure to be extreme right-wing is intense, etc.

Indeed, it is a weird experience to talk politics with my old high school pals who still live there -- I'm about the only person they know who voted for Obama; if it isn't on Fox 'News' they don't even know if something happened or not (nobody I know there knew about the Paul Ryan-soup kitchen incident, for example); right-wing conspiracy theories are not theories for a lot of these folks, they are accepted facts ... on and on.

Most people have no idea how separated certain pockets of Americans have become from even run-of-the-mill reactionary conservatives. At least in the case of Wyoming, we're only talking about half a million people.

I live in Connecticut and every town runs into the other and we are all kind of on top of each other. It is hard to be reactionary when you have to deal with lots of different types of people every day. Half a million people in one huge state....I don't know if I could handle that. The shock of no daily traffic jams might explode my brain.

I'm guessing Salt Lake City (and to a lesser extent, Ogden, Park City and Moab) is the only reason Utah isn't ranked #1. Salt Lake City is pretty much a Democratic island in a sea of conservatives. I couldn't imagine living in Wyoming. I know a lot of people who've moved to Salt Lake from there because of it's too reactionist (anti-gay especially).

They should be, but they ain't.

A shitload of Idahoans identify as "independent" rather than "conservative" because they consider "conservative" to be too liberal for their tastes. Some consider the Tea Party too liberal for their tastes.
