NRA On Obama’s Guards In Schools Plan: Thanks, But No Thanks

Source: TPM

EVAN MCMORRIS-SANTORO 1:48 PM EST, FRIDAY FEBRUARY 1, 2013

Former Rep. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR), director of the National Rifle Association's post-Newtown "School Sheild" program, thanked President Obama on Thursday for including money that can potentially be used to hire armed guards at schools in his gun violence prevention package. But he said that Obama's plan -- which allows disctricts to use funds for armed police officers or improved mental health services -- isn't good enough.

The NRA's School Shield program will train school staff and volunteers to serve as armed protection for schools. In a video posted to the program's website Thursday, Hutchinson promised School Shield guidelines by April 1.

"I'm very pleased that he did include and recognize the historic role that armed, trained professionals play in protecting our school children," Hutchinson said of Obama's proposals in the video. "I'm also concerned that some of his proposals do not meet the standards of the Second Amendment, and I'm confident that those are going to be rejected by Congress."

"[Obama] did recognize the importance of our school resource officers and his plan really to put billions of dollars into new resources for our schools is well received, except I don't believe it's the best plan because I'm afraid many of those resources will not actually get to the schools but that will be diverted," Hutchinson said. "What we want to look at is using federal dollars for better training programs and the resources being provided more by our state and local communities."

So we can't have background checks or mental health services

From the gun industry perspective, it's better for sales
to create as much fear as possible.

More fear = more gun sales = more fear = more and more
gun sales.

Self-reinforcing loop, growth industry.

Washington state hit with $15M claim in 1999 Jewish center shooting

Buford O. Furrow was on parole at time of shooting spree at North Valley Jewish Community Center in California.

...

The claim, potentially the precursor for a lawsuit, was filed Friday against the state Department of Corrections, which was responsible for supervising Buford O. Furrow Jr., an avowed white supremacist with a history of mental illness.

Furrow, now 44 and serving a life sentence, had been out of prison for three months at the time of the shooting spree at the North Valley Jewish Community Center in Granada Hills, California.

The claim says the state agency should have monitored Furrow to prevent him from accumulating the weapons, should have given more attention to court records of his close ties to hate groups, and failed to obtain his psychiatric records and assess his mental health.

"Well regulated" apparently means paroled, mentally ill, white supremacist and probably also violent, paranoid and angry.

Recall how "well regulated" that guy from Tennessee is - he definitely has the last three down:

Armed guards are not enough for them. Every American should have a gun, whether they want to or not. More $$$$$ for the gun industry.

You are either with them (a gun owner) or against them (non-gun owner). Over 30 years I have seen enough of their literature as the wife of a life NRA member. I actually READ their propaganda, because you have to be informed. It really disturbs me but you have to know what they believe in to fight them.
