Texas Attorney General brands Super Bowl 'greatest human trafficking incident in US'
Published: Monday, Feb 4, 2013, 12:53 IST
Place: Washington, DC | Agency: ANI

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has claimed the Super Bowl, which is the greatest show on earth, has an ugly underbelly, branding it as the single largest human trafficking incident in the United States.

Advocates claim that the sporting event attracts more traffickers than any other in the US, the Huffington Post reports.

Clemmie Greenlee, a former sex trafficking victim, who was abducted and raped by her captors at 12, claimed she was expected to sleep with 25 to 50 men a day during the Super Bowl, and added that she was ferried around cities in the South to work as a prostitute at large-scale events.

The arrival of fans provides the perfect breeding ground for pimps, who look to increase their sales and profits during the mega event.

The only good thing about Tx AG Greg Abbott is his focus on sex crimes. Maybe b/c he was crippled/paralyzed in a freak accident. He is also the one who fought for caps on personal injury damages. Caps that would have cut out most of the money he recovered in his lawsuit, except that he fought for this soon AFTER he made HIS money!

The Cowboys will never again go to a Super Bowl as long as Jerry Jones is alive. So relax, don't obsess about it (what am I talking about, haters obsess all the time), and enjoy. And good news for the haters - Jones' mother just passed at the age of 90. So, because of genetics, I can see ol rubber face living for another 15 years or so. So rejoice haters!

players like Robert Newhouse, Harvey Martin, and of course, Roger Staubach! Once Jerry fired Tom Landry by phone, he was dead to me! While I agreed that Coach Landry needed to go, and I welcomed Jimmy Johnson, the total lack of class exhibited by Jones cemented my dislike for this egotistical piece of cow shit!

Perhaps as soon as 2014. And he will be president of the United States not too long after that. I hope I am dead before it happens.

There is debate among organizations involved in stopping trafficking over the accuracy of claims that the "demand effect" is real. In 2011, the Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women (GAATW) concluded in it's, report that "an increase in trafficking for prostitution during large sporting events is unlikely" and that a mythologizing of the issue actually distracts from legitimate and thoughtful consideration of other types of trafficking. Rachel Lloyd echoed this concern earlier this week, when she asked whether it matters if trafficking increases during the Super Bowl -- isn't the truth about trafficking bad enough?

The reason the myth exists is because there so much more focus and reporting.
