New England Blizzard Worries Mass. GOP Senate Candidates

Source: TPM

IGOR BOBIC 4:59 PM EST, FRIDAY FEBRUARY 8, 2013

A rapidly approaching storm expected to pile on as much as 3 feet of snow in parts of New England is worrying prospective GOP candidates in Massachusetts who are hoping to collect a required 10,000 signatures for a special election to replace Secretary of State John Kerry. Per the National Journal:

"I think any day lost is obviously going to be a huge impediment," Massachusetts GOP strategistMeredith Warren said. "I would assume that this would've been a huge weekend for someone like Dan Winslow to be out getting signatures but...everyone's hunkered down."

Democrats will have to deal with the blizzard's effects as well, but the issue is particularly problematic for Winslow and the GOP. There is a much deeper pool of registered Democrats in deep-blue Massachusetts than registered Republicans. The state GOP also lacks the legions of party activists and union members willing to scour the state on behalf of Democratic Reps. Edward Markey andStephen Lynch. Winslow didn't officially enter the race until Thursday, and he lacks the built-in campaign apparatus that former Sen. Scott Brown would have brought to the race.

Quite a gal!

And about that other matter -

VERY glad the weather is kicking the GOP in the teeth! They have such a cavalier attitude - this might actually open their eyes about not fucking with Mother Nature, and ...

Oh wait. This is the GOP we're talking about. Heads like a rock. Hearts like a BB.

+1

My favorite song by Peggy was "Is That All there Is?" Another one, not by Peggy, but by Lena Horne "Stormy Weather", might be apropos for this weekend of snow in the north east.

...for "Winslow and the GOP." I can just hear them bellyaching about having to get out in the snow. "Why, we could catch our death. It's too cold. We could get hung up in the snow and not be found for Lord knows how long." GOPers don't like to get out and rub elbows on a good day, so you can imagine the pickle they're in now. Yessssssssss. Let it snow!
