(UPDATE February 12, 2013 8:29 pm PST)
There were conflicting reports about whether a body was located inside the burned-out cabin Tuesday night where Christopher Jordan Dorner was believed to have kept law enforcement authorities at bay.
Several sources told The Times and many other news organizations that a body was located in the rubble. But LAPD officials said that the cabin was still too hot to search and no body has been found.
As authorities moved into the cabin earlier Tuesday, they heard a single gunshot.
According to a law enforcement source, police had broken down windows, fired tear gas into the cabin and blasted over a loud speaker, urging Dorner to surrender. When they got no response, police deployed a vehicle to rip down the walls of the cabin "one by one, like peeling an onion," a law enforcement official said.
By the time they got to the last wall, authorities heard a single gunshot, the source said. Then flames began to spread through the structure, and gunshots, probably set off by the fire, were heard.
As darkness descended on the mountainside, Dorner's body had not been found, authorities said. Police were planning to focus their search in the basement area, the source said.

Christopher Dorner shootout: Body found in burned cabin
A body was found inside the burned out cabin Tuesday night where Christopher Jordan Dorner was believed to have kept law enforcement authorities at bay before officers fired tear gas into the structure and stormed inside, a source told The Times.
The body, which was found as officers sifted through the charred rubble of the mountainside cabin, was not positively identified, the source said. The process of making a determination whether the body is that of the former Los Angeles Police Department officer could take hours or even days, the source said.

(75,480 posts)a fire zone. I suppose the sheriff's department would have to make amends otherwise.

But, at least they're alive.

(2,470 posts)The cops are likely also immune from the destruction they caused while in pursuit of a criminal. The owner very well may forced to bear the full cost of bad luck.

Read this thread and start around message #154. I heard it live as did many others. They went with the "burn plan"...

Just saying.

(90 posts)happened, with video.
see my link above for live video
Seems like it was pure luck and timing that the crew ended up so close, and they are VERY lucky they didn't get shot, as Dorner was using sound suppressors on his rifles, so almost no noise from his shots, thus no idea where the shots were coming from.

(949 posts)the one he used to kill himself. None of the information adds up. So how many wallets and IDs did this guy have?

(17,651 posts)have it include discrepancies between live scanner conversations, the "news" reports, the removal of eye witnesses in the form of news helicopters over the area as well as the scrubbing of twitter feeds and other online messages made by all authorities.
And, let's not forget how innocent citizens were shot at without confirming their ID.
Disclaimer I feel I have to constantly add: I in no way agree with Droner killing innocent people but law enforcement as some questions that need to be answered.
There's some seriously wrong shit occurring and it needs to be stopped.

(29,876 posts)drone. Then after reading others, not just on this forum, I realized I was mistaken and it was actually 'burn plan'.
They fucked up, imo, thinking they were talking on a secured frequency.
The news media knows this and are trying a cover-up as they heard the same scanner feed I did sitting up here in Michigan and listening in. (right...no life)
Personally I'm glad he is eradicated but I hate the media 'cover story'.
By morning, I'm sure audio of the scanner feed I heard will be all over the net.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)My main reason for thinking they didn't deliberately set fire to the place is that setting fire to an ammo dump like that would endanger their own safety.

Like I said, I know somebody, somewhere recorded the scanner feed and this will be documented.

(14,626 posts)I have heard media reports that the police were not allowing fire crews near the burning cabin...which may simply have been for the fire crews' own safety??

(4,869 posts)Pretty sure firefighters know a lot more about fire safety than police officers.

(5,861 posts)It's not common; they bar paramedics too in cases like that. I remember reading that medics were held back for hours after the shooters killed themselves during the Columbine massacre because the cops didn't know they had turned their guns on themselves. Injured kids and teachers languished in the school as a result. It's a tough decision either way I'm sure.

(804 posts)It's probably because the LAPD is letting San Bernadino Sherrifs do all the media releases, and things are delayed because they are verifying between the two. I'm sure he's done.
He was in a slow decline from two wars: Afghanistan and one with the LAPD. His wife divorced him; he was in his mid-30's and living with him mom and sister, suffering from depression...
But killing folks that had nothing to do with his dilemma is screwed up 10 fold.

(18,124 posts)the audio of the cops laughing and joking, saying burn mother......ect, reminded me that this must have been what it was like at a lynching of a black in the early days of our glorious country. The difference was, in those days blacks weren't allowed guns by their massas. I'm glad he had the means not to feel the the burning. Officer Dorner, RIP.
