2 women dead, girl, 7, critical as Detroiter opens fire on his family, (he turned himself in! whew.)

Source: Detroit Free Press

Two women are dead and a 7-year-old girl was in critical condition after they were shot by a relative Friday on Detroit’s west side, police said.

Police were searching for the suspect, whom they identified as Ferdarius Shine, 28, of Detroit. They said he suffers from mental illnesses.

He fled the scene of the 6:45 p.m. shooting in the 13500 block of Winthrop, possibly on a bicycle, police said. He is not believed to have access to a vehicle, they said.

A gun was recovered at the scene. The suspect has a concealed pistol license, police said.

Inspector Dwane Blackmon said the man shot his 66-year-old grandmother, 48-year-old aunt and 7-year-old daughter. His mother also was at the home, but she was not shot, Blackmon said. He did not identify the victims by name.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit police at 313 596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAKUP (800-773-2587

Police are searching for the 24-year-old shooter, FerDarius Shine. They believe he is hiding in the area. He is considered extremely dangerous, police say.

"Our concern is that he's still out and a danger to our community," said Dwane Blackmon, of Detroit Police Homicide.

According to police sources, Shine is mentally unstable and takes medication. He was at his grandmother's house Friday night where he started talking about Satan, God and the Devil.

"Something they didn't understand and couldn't comprehend," said Blackmon.

He suddenly opened fire on his 65-year-old grandmother, his 48-year-old aunt and his own 7-year-old daughter.

Shine's own mother also was at the house. She was able to get him to stop shooting. His grandmother and aunt both died at the house.

People with carry permits are "good guys with guns", they never hurt anyone, they are there to save us. I know cuz Wayne told me so.

Most people who have an identifiable mental illness (which is a small subset of people who have some kind of psychological issues) never pose a danger to themselves or others.

A person who has been adjudicated by a court of law as mentally defective, or who has been committed involuntarily to a mental hospital or other facility, cannot legally possess a firearm under federal law. State laws all parallel federal law, and any person who can't legally have a gun can not get a permit to carry one.

and best wishes for a speedy and full recovery to the 7 y.o. daughter.

Now, who the hell authorized a concealed permit for this guy? I hope that there's a full and thorough investigation on how and who thought it was ok for this mentally challenged man to have that permit and if warranted, I hope someone is fired or at least, severely disciplined.

Just another typical day in gun crazy america.

So tell me how you would change the system to ensure people with mental problems cannot possess or buy guns?

“I don’t know what put him on that rampage like that. All I can say is he acted crazy, but he never acted crazy like that to kill his own loved ones,” Stewart said. “Something was really going on through his head to make him flip like that.”

Stewart said she had taken out personal protection orders against Shine in the past because he could become violent. But in the past year or so, Shine had appeared more stable and he was able to visit with their son.

Stewart said that she has full custody of her son but that Shine picks their son up for visits every other weekend. Sometimes they go skating.

This was supposed to be Shine’s weekend with their son, but “by the grace of God,” the boy wasn’t with his father at the time of the attack, Stewart said.

I assume this is just ultra-shitty writing and the fact that cop-speak is related to "FUCK! YOU have a gun?!" low levels of intelligence teaming up, but I'd like to think they just throw in the purposefully absurd everyone once in a while.

"He fled the scene ... possibly on a bicycle, police said. He is not believed to have access to a vehicle, they said."
