IRAN PLANS TO ESTABLISH NEW NAVY BASE
Source: AP
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) Iran's official news agency says the country's navy plans to establish a new base near Pakistan's border in the Sea of Oman.
The plans are part of Iranian ambitions to exert its naval power outside the Persian Gulf, including sending warships to the Mediterranean and claiming it might someday have ships in the Atlantic.
The IRNA report on Sunday quotes Adm. Habibollah Sayyari as saying that the base will be built in Pasabandar, about 30 kilometers (100 miles) west of Pakistani major port of Gwadar.

(3,093 posts)All other things aside, I would say that any efforts to increase their self defense capabilities are a prudent move at this point.
The examples of Iraq and Libya, among others, demonstrate that any attempts to disarm and act meekly before the circling sharks will only result in them being completely devoured. All pretenses about "inspections" and "disarming", with the corresponding economic terrorism in the guise of sanctions, are only aimed at softening them up before the next war.
The very real Wahhabi/Zionist threat to Iran, both operating under the aegis of US arrogance and adventurism, must be countered with strength on their part.
