Soledad headed out at CNN
Source: NY Post
High-profile morning anchor Soledad OBrien is on her way out at CNN as new boss Jeff Zucker moves Erin Burnett into her morning slot, Page Six has exclusively learned.
Were told award-winning journalist OBrien has indicated she is ready to leave after she was initially promised a plum prime-time slot, but that role has so far failed to materialize.
A source tells us: The deal to move Erin to the morning alongside Chris Cuomo is basically done. Soledad had been told shed get a prime-time slot, but that hasnt yet happened, and now she is telling friends she is likely to leave.

(8,377 posts)Or maybe there is a whole different format. I mean, the way it is now, you have Tweety, Al, Ed, Rachael, and Lawrence all covering 95% the same stories, each giving it their own particular treatment. And half the time they have exactly the same set of guests.
I'd like to see them do something a lot more adventurous. I'm not sure what that would be, but adding another personality to rant for an hour isn't any kind of improvement.
I love Soledad and think she might be able to bring a whole different kind of program.

(8,377 posts)I think it is completely pointless for Bashir, Matthews, Sharpton, Maddow, Shultz, and then O'Donnell to each spend an entire hour regurgitating the same three stories of left-wing outrage for that day.
Boehner farted? Yeah, that's a good 20 minute segment -- ON SIX DAMN SHOWS plus two hours of repeats !!!!!
There is important news that affects the lives of Americans, and therefore has political implications, but isn't all about what one K-street lobbyist said to some bought Congressman. Wouldn't it be nice if somebody ran a show that was like the PBS News Hour except without all the right-wing old white men supplied by the huge corporations that essentially present that show?
Not everything in this world has to be examined, first and foremost, through the prism of whether Obama won or lost that day.
Think of all the stories worth telling about new energy, health care breakthroughs, the arts, how Washington policies affect real people, etc etc. It really is endless, I think she could do a great job with something like that.
It is the "reality teevee" problem. It is really, really cheap to prop Tweety in front of a camera for an hour and just let him dump out an incoherent stream of consciousness. The manufactured outrage of Sharpton and O'Donnell takes no research at all. The only real planning is deciding which of their 10 regular "experts" will be on camera to help share the outrage.
Jon Stewart's staff does far more work going after stories than any of the MSNBC 6. At least Maddow's staff is good with numbers and charts -- because she will never get any real guests.

(2,117 posts)I doubt people who regularly tune into MSNBC are watching both of those hours, so one of them is pretty much just wasted. MSNBC has some good evening shows, but the order of their lineup just doesn't seem to be optimal. But I agree, a true news show in the evening would be great, and Tweety's spare hour shows there is room for one.

(8,377 posts)it is really cheap to have 6 big hosts and a another dozen bit players, and just have them rant for an hour each night.
You don't need any research staff. No field crew. Barely any preparation.
You just need a bunch of sheep (on the left or the right) that will sit there an hour listening to the same tired old rants. And it seems there are several million from each end of he spectrum willing to do exactly that.
Wake me up if anybody ever has anything that is actually informative on MSNBC.

I can only take about 4 minutes of Tweety, regardless of which hour it is.
If only I could be half as smart as he is, then I would probably enjoy it more.
I definitely agree that the Bashir show makes far more sense to rerun, as it is generally a better program and many people cannot watch live during his time slot.

(492 posts)"Not unattractive." But Soledad is what any man would call beautiful.
Erin perhaps worries that her "hot" level is not high enough.
But with Soledad, it's not heat, it's warmth.
Erin is a poseur who knows a couple of things and thinks that that makes her smart enough to climb the ladder.
Soledad knows what questions need to be asked and calls out those who spew lies for the gullible.
I'd sooner watch Sponge Bob than Erin.
And I think CNN is giving Soledad the boot because of her aggressive interviews calling out lying fools and foolish liars

Any guy who can plan a trip to an exotic locale, such as Mongolia, Mozambique, or Papua New Guinea, would impress me. (Well, this cancels roughly 98% of humans.)
2. Buy Me a New Atlas and Globe
You could unlock my heart by allowing me to dream up my next trip. I love to travel, and hope to eventually set foot in 100 countries. I have many more to go. (Easy for you to say; your trips are very rarely on your dime)
3. Do Something Special for My Parents
Family is important to me, so round-trip business-class tickets to Australia and New Zealand for my parents would earn you big points in my book. (Your pop's a damned Corporate Attorney. He can't afford Down Under??)
4. Relax Me
Yoga keeps me calm, so I'd be impressed if you thought to send a yoga instructor to my apartment for private sessions. (And a simple DVD isn't good enough? Oh, that's right, your Royal Highness Burnett )
5. Help Me Work Out
Finding an exercise bike at my door would be great for rainy days when my Raleigh M80 mountain bike and I are stuck indoors. (Or fly me and my Raleigh somewhere sunny, whatever . . .)
6. Edify Me
Reading is a passion of mine, so a gathering with a couple of my favorite authors, especially Jared Diamond (Guns, Germs, and Steel) and Robin McKinley (The Blue Sword) would make for an exceptional evening. (Your favorite authors would probably hate you)
7. Please My Palate
Hiring a personal chef to prepare meals for the few nights a week I am home would be unforgettable. (I'll just get you PF Changs, you'll never know the difference)
8. Send Me Packing
A man who recognizes the importance of my time with the girls is a keeper. A long weekend spa getaway for my sisters and me would be perfection (Sheeee-it . . . if you don't send THEM packing first. H.M.B.)

(22,000 posts)I have CNN International so we don't get many of the US shows. They do a mix of shows about different places in the world and then most of the news is out of either England or Hong Kong. CNN International doesn't seem to catch quite as much of the conservative slant that they have in the US (Wolf Blitzer being one of the exceptions). There is a great anchor out of Hong Kong who's name is Kristie Lou Stout and she is Asian-American and from California.

They let Spitzer go. Once Cafferty started speaking out against the status quo, they diminished his voice to a few minutes under the watchful eye of Blitzer & now he's gone, too. Now O'Brien.
