Source: AP via HuffPo
JOHANNESBURG The family lawyer of Oscar Pistorius says the brother of the Olympic paraplegic athlete is facing culpable homicide charge in a 2010 road death.
Laywer Kenny Oldwage would not confirm details of the case Carl Pistorius is facing, but Sunday's development is compounding the problems for the family after Oscar was charged with premeditated murder in the Feb. 14 shooting death of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Local media reported that Carl Pistorius was allegedly involved in a crash with a woman motorcyclist and that he was to face trial last Thursday, as his brother Oscar was facing a bail hearing.

The brother of Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius is facing charges over the death of a woman in a car crash in 2010, Sky News has learned.
Carl Pistorius, who was present in court over the past week to support Oscar, is charged with culpable homicide over the alleged accidental death of a female motorcyclist.
His lawyer Kenny Oldwage, who also represents Oscar Pistorius, confirmed the charges to Sky's Alex Crawford.
Carl Pistorius appeared in court just two days before his brother's bail hearing last week.
Crawford said in Britain the equivalent charge to culpable homicide is manslaughter.
Carl Pistorius' trial is set to begin at the end of March.

The brother's case is negligence in an car accident since it identifies the victim as a "female motorcyclist" and specifies a "road accident."
The legal talking heads think Pistorius's case will be pleaded down to culpable homicide since his lawyer has already admitted he's guilty of that.

(804 posts)Many years ago, I played at clubs in a band in Orange County, California: for all intents and purposes, Orange County was known as "Reagan Country"it has many well-to-do neighborhoods.
There was a band that we played with who had a young girl bass player. I became friends with her. She was a sweet girl who was excited about life, and had just become interested in horses.
One afternoon she was riding her bike with her boyfriend, and began crossing the street with her bike. As she made her way across the street, she was run over by a drunk driver, who failed to stop at the stop sign.
As it ended up, the drunk driver was the son of a lawyer in the well to do Orange County area. Guess, what?: the driver (again, the lawyer's son) was found innocent.
It seems to me, that there is much of this going on in South Africa.

There are 2 sets of legal systems, one for the rich and one for the rest of us.
