Survey: Teachers don't want to carry guns, do support armed guards

Nearly three-fourths of the nation's teachers say they personally would not bring a firearm to their school if allowed, but most educators believe armed guards would improve campus safety, a new survey showed.

Of the nearly 11,000 educators surveyed nationwide, most said they generally feel safe in their schools, but disagreed on whether their workplaces were safe from gun violence.

Nearly four in 10 school superintendents who responded said their schools were not safe from gun violence, slightly higher than the 31% of teachers who felt their schools were not safe.

January's online survey was conducted by School Improvement Network, a for-profit company that specializes in professional development for educators and partners with schools, districts, and educators.

that there school is not safe from gun violence (or any other kind of violence). Unless
your school has a moat and metal detectors there is always the potential that some type of violent event could occur there.

The poll only says that 75% of teachers don't want to personally carry but it doesn't say that they are against the remaining 25% from carrying. I wonder if some nut case would be deterred if he thought that one out of four teachers might be carrying?

I am not opposed to armed security in schools as at the worst it might be a deterrent to some mass murderers who are looking for a good place to run amok. There is also the possibility that an armed guard could stop a shooter and save some lives.

That's so helpful.

How many thousands of elementary schools, preschools, middle schools, high schools? (Not mention colleges and other schools)

How many guards per school is enough? Two? Ten?

Who will pay for this when we are cutting public education budgets this year in virtually every town and city in every state?

It should be difficult, at least, to walk onto school property without identifying yourself properly. I don't have a problem with an armed police officer being on site either.

But we don't need teachers packing heat, and we don't need armed private security gomers lurking around schools either.

They know that the moar gunz....moar!!! logic of the NRA and it's shills & sycophants is simply an invitation to more shooting, more mayhem, and more massacres.

Further, some John Wayne-wannabe with a PRD tucked in his drawers while he teaches the ABC's is not the kind of country any civilized human being wants to live in.
