Toxic metal levels linked to autism

Source: UPI

Children with autism had higher levels of several heavy metals in their blood and urine compared to typical children, U.S. researchers reported.

The study, published in the journal Biological Trace Element Research, found the autism group had significantly higher levels -- 41 percent -- of lead in their red blood cells and 74 percent higher urinary levels of lead, 77 percent higher levels of thallium, 115 percent higher levels of tin and 44 percent higher levels of tungsten.

Lead, thallium, tin and tungsten are toxic metals that can impair brain development and function, and also interfere with the normal functioning of other body organs and systems, Adams said.

.......

"We hypothesize that reducing early exposure to toxic metals may help ameliorate symptoms of autism, and treatment to remove toxic metals may reduce symptoms of autism; these hypotheses need further exploration, as there is a growing body of research to support it," Adams said in a statement.

We all know this is impossible because mercury is the sole cause of autism. kestrel91316 Feb 2013 #2

I guess Thiomersal wasn't the problem after all.

"Thiomersal (INN), commonly known in the US as thimerosal, is an organomercury compound. This compound is a well established antiseptic and antifungal agent.

The pharmaceutical corporation Eli Lilly and Company gave thiomersal the trade name Merthiolate. It has been used as a preservative in vaccines, immunoglobulin preparations, skin test antigens, antivenins, ophthalmic and nasal products, and tattoo inks.[citation needed] Its use as a vaccine preservative is controversial, and it is being phased out from routine childhood vaccines in the United States, the European Union, and a few other countries."

By the way, Merthiolate is commonly used to treat cuts and scratches.....

Thousands of children in the developing world have died because they couldn't get vaccinated due to unavailable or spoiled Vaccines.

People need to think of the consequences of promoting Conspiracy Theories.

Sometimes it pays to read the linked articles. I too have screwed up like you did, here. Here is a snip from article with mercury included.

The study found 38 percent to 47 percent of the variation of autism severity was associated with the level of several toxic metals, with cadmium and mercury being the most strongly associated.

"We hypothesize that reducing early exposure to toxic metals may help ameliorate symptoms of autism, and treatment to remove toxic metals may reduce symptoms of autism; these hypotheses need further exploration, as there is a growing body of research to support it," Adams said in a statement.

and vaccines are hardly the only source of it -- relative to 20 years ago, MUCH more coal is being burned globally, especially in China, with concomitant increases in mercury and other toxic metals (as well as from other NON-ecoindustrial industrial processes)
