Detroit Takeover: Rick Snyder Will Announce State Takeover, Mayor Dave Bing Says

Source: Huffington Post

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder will announce on Friday that the state will takeover Detroit, Mayor Dave Bing said at a press conference on Thursday.

Bing said that the Governor told him the decision on Thursday, after weeks of uncertainty surrounding dire Detroit's financial situation.

Last week, a state review team found that the city was heading towards financial emergency. It recommended that an emergency manager be appointed to run the city and help balance its checkbooks.

Detroit has struggled with economic hardships for years and faces billions of dollars in debt. The city was hit hard by the recession, and subsequent cuts made to the auto industry.

the financial manager law last November. The 2013 legislature just passed another one that cannot be repealed by voters. This needs to be a taken to court. I don't understand why this legislation isn't being challenged.

The problem is that the Republicans in the legislature can simply pass an amendment changing constitutional powers of the governor, essentially expanding his powers to do this.

And that it fits the same pattern as Italy, Spain, Greece....having a non-elected technocrat put in charge of a city/state.
Subject to no vote, no recall, answerable only to whoever put him there.

What city is next?

"Goldman Sachs dominates the Federal Reserve.
Goldman Sachs dominates the World Bank.
Goldman Sachs dominates the IMF.
Goldman Sachs dominates the New York Stock Exchange.
And now Goldman Sachs is running the European financial system into the ground as another Goldman Sachs boy, “Super” Mario Monti, who has taken over Italy to finish off what is left of the Italian financial system.
Monti is also the head of the European Trilateral Commission as well as a Bilderberger.
And yet another Goldman Sachs boy is finishing off the job in Greece. "

19. Why should
Fri Mar 1, 2013, 07:31 AM

that be legal? Are you saying there is a monarchy in Michigan? I thought it was a Democracy and only the people decided who ran their buiness? What if the city of Detroit refused to pay any revenues to the State of Michigan. What do the people of Detroit do with their revenues and why are they in debt? What revenues does the City get from the Industry in this city or have they been giving them a free ride? The City of Detroit should not let Republican Thugs run their affairs. If they are, Dave Bing is letting them do it. This is a city with a Basketball Franchise, Football Franchise, Auto Industry and Music Industry. Something isn't right there.

what is going on. This city is 82 percent Black and most whites fled to the suburbs. For a City that has all those Industries, unemployment is very high for minorities and wages are very low. There is something wrong with this picture. I don't know what the leaders of Detroit is doing and I see the mayor himself has a very profitable business. Why is there high unemployment in Detroit? I bet it is among minorities also. That is just my hunch.

And now they just shit-canned the only high-ranking party official that was trying to STOP THEM.

Let's try to keep in mind that our former DEMOCRATIC SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE *ucked over
state workers and then was appointed TREASURER by Rick Snyder.

I campaigned for Virg Bernero. The party gave him NO MONEY, despite the efforts of Mark Brewer
and others to do so.

Ask Debbie Stabenow how much money she's got left in HER war-chest.

Michigan suffers from Third Way Democrat (DLC) syndrome, and it's getting WORSE, not better.

Macomb County's new County Executive actually appeared as a "Special Guest" at a FUNDRAISER for
Snyder:

Progressives are running on fumes in this state.

Afterall, the country bailed them out, And maybe all the former Motown greats could contribute to improving the schools and childcare there? Some positive actions by the "haves" could take place instead of all the bitching. I don't remember anyone rushing in to help Bing when he was asking for help years ago.

A GENERAL STRIKE in Benton Harbor, Detroit, and the other cities that have had their democracy stripped away?

Make Snyder call out the fucking National Guard to collect the trash, etc.

Police Chiefs of these cities should arrest and jail the Emergency Managers.

Force the issue!!
