Maryland Senate passes gun control bill

WASHINGTON, Feb 28 (Reuters) - The Maryland Senate approved a comprehensive gun control bill on Thursday that includes a ban on assault weapons and fingerprinting for prospective handgun buyers.

The Democratic-controlled Senate passed the bill 28-19 and sent it on to the House of Delegates, according to the chamber's website.

Democratic Governor Martin O'Malley proposed the measure in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut, school massacre in December in which 20 children and six adults died. The rampage reignited a national debate on gun control.

The bill has a licensing requirement for handgun buyers to submit fingerprints to state police. Gun buyers also have to complete an eight-hour safety training course and undergo a more rigorous background check before purchasing a weapon.

The NRA has stepped too high and in Illinois the election has reflected opposite responses to what the NRA has provided in the past. It may not happen in the near future but I think it will result in AWB. I received email from a friend saying assault weapons was not used in Arizona and Sandy Hook because it seems like this us information given by conservative web sites. I responded we may need to look into banning some of the hand guns. I also provided him a link to report from the Connecticut state police stating the weapon used in the Sandy Hook incident. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!

This is good news indeed. I hope my state of Illinois can formulate something this good. We (Illinois) are being forced to make concealed carry the law by supreme court action. So much for legislating from the bench. We saw a good example of concealed carry in Florida today/yesterday at a WalMart parking lot.

The outdated and pointless 2nd Amendment has no purpose in a free and safe society.

... but under what conditions do you see 2/3 of the Senate and HoR as well as 3/4 of the states agreeing to that?

Actually, it was the white settlers who were more numerous than natives and regularly surrounded and shot up native villages since the natives would not quietly go away to the badlands.

As the country increasingly trends "Blue," sensible gun regulation like this will become the norm nationwide.
