UK to send armoured vehicles to Syrian opposition

Source: BBC News

The UK is to provide armoured vehicles and body armour to opposition forces in Syria "to help save lives", Foreign Secretary William Hague has said.

It will offer millions of pounds in "non-lethal" equipment, including search and rescue, communications, and disease-prevention materials.

Mr Hague said it was a "necessary, proportionate and lawful" response to "extreme human suffering".

But some MPs said they feared being drawn into a military intervention.

What is the equipment to do this?

Helicopters? Drones? GPS?

Seems like all of it is dual purpose military uses.

It's too dangerous to send out an Ambulance. Many medics have been killed trying to rescue wounded civilians.

That term is usaully reserved for people who are lost, not wounded on a battlefield.

Pulling a wounded civilian off the street, under fire is a rescue. Looking for them is a search.

It seems you don't agree with the premise of Armored Vehicles, but think of it as an unarmed Ambulance with Armor.

Sounds like total BS now. An "armored ambulance"?

Putting a red crescent on it doesn't magically turn an armored vehicle into anything other then a armored troop carrier.

Seems most casualties are transported via personal vehicle, they don't have time to call a "armored ambulance".

Sure, an Ambulance with Armor to protect the Medics and patients from indiscriminate Sniper fire. What's wrong with that?

Seems the "rebels" are more prone to using it as a military vehicle to carry out terrorist activities.

Why should I waste my time trying to explain to someone that has their mind made-up, regardless of what I day or do?

That is all. Good bye.

What you are proposing is ludiacris.

If what you propose is for the "good of the people", why didn't the US give "armored ambulances" to Iraqis or Afghanis?

In June 2012, Textron Marine & Land Systems finally described the M1117 Armored Security Vehicle (ASV) variants being provided to Afghanistan via the Foreign Military Sale protocols, and funded externally via Afghan Security Forces Funds. The ANA will receive the standard ASV, the stretched ICV/Armored Personnel Carrier, command and control, ambulance, engineering, maintenance, mortar, and reconnaissance versions.
