Michele Bachmann: Obamacare Will ‘Literally’ Kill Peopletle
Source: Think Progress
By Igor Volsky on Mar 21, 2013 at 11:55 am
In a long diatribe against the law, Bachmann predicted that the American people will pay more and get less, before suggesting that the provisions of Obamacare will literally kill people:
BACHMANN: Its why were here because were saying lets repeal this failure before it literally kills women, kills children, kills senior citizens. Lets not do that. Lets love people, lets care about people. Lets repeal it now while we can.

(41,212 posts)There are luckily not too many people quite as bad as Bachmann in the UK parliament, but there are some serious nutters in non-Parliamentary politics: local government, the EU parliament, and just on the fringes. Look up 'UKIP' and, worse, 'BNP'.

(541 posts)The SCOTUS already spoke, and you R's in Congress have already tried to repeal it how many times now? I lost count but I believe the number of attempts is in the 30's. FOX News anchor Chris Wallace even told Paul Ryan it wasn't going to happen. What is it going to take. I do have one idea, if you hate the ACA so much, lets go with a single payer system/Medicare for all. That sounds good to me.

(15,189 posts)Sterns County Syndrome referrers to the inter-family marriages that happened during and shortly after WWII and the resulting increase in children being born with birth defects and mental retardation. There was a study done on this but I don't know if it is available on the internet as it was done before PC's were around.

It's safe to say Schiffler's is important to the town. The street lights stay lit thanks to Erv's liquor license and property taxes.
"We're here all alone. And there are a lot of towns like us," Schiffler says. "I do a lot of driving around and see a lot of towns and all there is is a bar left. Everything else is closed up. The bars seem to survive."

(12,904 posts)Very nice lady from the office called to let me know that my insurance provider was going to be sending me a special offer. Special offer? From an insurance company?
It seems that they would like to offer me the opportunity to purchase 2014's coverage, for 2013's rates. Seems the company is all worried (concerned) that the ACA is surely going to cause my premiums to go up, and they don't want me to have to pay those higher rates. So, just for this one time, I am being offered a savings! Funny how my premiums did nothing but go up all these years, but now they want me to have a savings!
So, I keep talking to the nice lady from agent's office, and she starts confiding that "we don't know what we're gonna do, when all these people start leaving the insurance companies in droves (!) for the health care exchanges". I didn't tell her that I am planning to join the droves, but was absolutely silently fist pumping over and over at my desk. So, when I log on to DU today, I see all kinds of stories, like this one from Bachman, about how bad for us Obamacare is going to be.
I think the big companies are in full-blown panic mode.

(25,270 posts)speech. My reaction was that there is a way to assure that all people would be protected - and that is single payer - essentially Medicare for everyone.
If she truly wants to protect these vulnerable women, children and senior citizens that she was speaking of - that would be the solution. Someone should call her on that.
One thing that she said however, and I heard this before from others that don't have an ax to grind on ACA - is that employers under ACA are only obligated to offer insurance coverage to their employees and don't have to extend that to their families - wives, husbands, children. As as result the extended family could be left without health coverage and have to pick that up on their own.
I was going to try and verify that and I never did - and today that is one of the points she was attempting to make.
Does anyone know if this is true? If so that is problematic. If so - I believe that this needs to be attended to before 2014.
Can anyone provide me with some facts either supporting or refuting this.
I've been a big supporter of ACA since the talks began to formulate it. I want to make sure that it is going to help everyone.

(16,993 posts)What a putz. I'm certain all those people that Obamacare would kill will live long, healthy, happy, prosperous lives with no access to health care whatsoever. Yes, that's a much better plan.
The best way to show people you love them and care for them, is to watch them suffer without health care.
Only in Bachmann's crazy, insane world. She is part of the reason things are so messed up. You can't have crazy people making decisions for the country and expect something other than insanity!

(20,215 posts)There's the study that found the uninsured had a 25% mortality risk than those with health insurance, from ages 25 to 74. There's the study by the Institute of medicine that found that 18,000 people died in 2000 because of lack of health insurance. An update of the study found 27,000 died in 2006. The latest study by Harvard put the figure at 45K PER YEAR. Which ever study you cite, it can be argued that tens of thousands are dying every year from lack of health insurance.
