Police: 4 people shot, 1 fatally, in Coney Island

Source: AP via Yahoo

According to police, Brown knocked on the door of an apartment in the Gravesend Houses and was let in by a 62-year-old woman. Brown went into a back bedroom, shut the door and then fired shots, police said. A 24-year-old man was shot in the head.

Brown then came out of the room and shot the woman who had answered the door in the stomach.

A third man was shot in the head and killed. The fourth victim, a 40-year-old male, was grazed in the head by a gunshot and treated at the scene.

Of course those victims could have just explained the to the perp that what he was doing was against the strict gun laws in place. That would have solved everything.

Cho did it with a common handgun- and he killed 32. The reason the death toll wasn't so much was because of where the shooting took place- in an apartment building. How many apartment buildings have 20 people in one room? not many.

So in essence, the reason it was so law was because there just wasn't as many people present.

To disarm the criminals we'll need to greatly reduce the number of weapons in general circulation. Universal background checks (and keeping that info on file), national registration, national licensing, federal felony status & heavy fines for misplacing, mishandling or allowing minors or other non-licensed people access to your weapons.

In short, force "responsible gun owners" to be the responsible gun owners that they aren't now.

Yo want people to be responsible, don't you?

... we can't even do that. Here in Louisiana, judges just ruled that, because of the NRA-inspired, "Obama's Coming to Take Your Guns Away" state constitutional amendment further enshrining the RKBA, it's now unconstitutional to keep guns out of the hands of even violent offenders. As insane a state of affairs as that is, it's the predictable outcome of our misplaced worship of the alleged right to keep and bear arms.

The law is very specific about violent felons NOT being allowed guns:
The judge ruled on the letter of the law and the law was fairly specific about what felons were NOT allowed to own a gun, from the link:

"It is unlawful for any person who has been convicted of a crime of violence ... which is a felony or simple burglary, burglary of a pharmacy, burglary of an inhabited dwelling, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, felony illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, manufacture or possession of a delayed action incendiary device, manufacture or possession of a bomb, or possession of a firearm while in the possession of or during the sale or distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, or any violation of the Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substances Law which is a felony, or any crime which is defined as a sex offense ..., or any crime defined as an attempt to commit one of the above-enumerated offenses under the laws of this state..."

Burglary of a UNINHABITED dwelling (Caps mine) is not listed, neither are other non-violent felonies.

Without agreeing with the law, the question is: For a non-violent felon who has completed his sentence and is in theory rehabilitated, what rights should he be required to forfeit after his release? Or asked a different way, what rights does a non-violent felon get back after he has completed serving his sentence?

... you might want to try reading it again. The statute that you quote prohibiting felony ownership of guns is the one that was just struck down by the judge as unconstitutional in entirety in light of the NRA's new amendment to the Louisiana state constitution.

Vigorous enforcement of existing laws was one of the 23 Executive orders.

Havn't heard complaints about those. As I recall Slackmaster, one of you delicate flowers I believe, has consistently for years advocated all firearms transfers be performed by licensed dealers. Along with the vigorous enforcement of Straw purchase laws covered in the EO's this past Jan.

A couple miles from me, there was a determined shooter with a semi-automatic firing away through glass windows and doors to the inside of a Chinese food take-out (and doing so from outside on the pavement), and it's all on surveillance video. The NY Daily News had the video embedded in their story (vs the local report site here that pointed to a youtube of it).

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/video-philly-gunman-traps-men-chinese-food-store-article-1.1295917?localLinksEnabled=false

Fortunately no one died but a couple of those targeted were shot and/or injured. Only reason why he fled was because he ran out of bullets in his clip. If he could re-load another clip, it seems obvious he would have and kept at it.

Sadly this is happening daily across all U.S. cities.

Five killed by gunshots, six wounded , in one square block over the last five years. This is NOT the inner city. It's these crazed kids with guns, they all carry them . I can spot them, but I can't ask a cop to frisk them without "cause". It's a combo deal, take the guns, I agree, but give the police at least the power to frisk known felons, juvenile or not. Joining a gang needs to be a felony , if you know they kill, then you should be prosecuted as a willing accessory to their crimes. These people who live with a back forty, shooting targets and deer have a different perspective, they are ignorant of the real world being lived each day in or near a big city.
