Brunswick toddler's mother responds to negative accusations against her

Source: First Coast News

Comments have been made questioning Sherry West, the murdered toddler's mother, and her account of what happened the day of the shooting, but people who have known her for years said West was a great mother and the accusations are false.

"When she brought that baby home ,her exact words were this is my miracle child, this was her second chance after losing her son in New York, most people just get in the car and get ready to drive off, Sherry, she wouldn't even leave the parking lot until that baby was fastened," said Daniel Carter, Affordable Taxi.

...

There have also been comments on social media accusing West of being involved in the crime, but Police said at this time she is not a suspect.

"Horrified that people would insinuate that I would ever kill my own baby, and on Facebook they are saying some real evil things."

They certainly do say evil things, in many places, not just Facebook.

I allowed myself to get frustrated at a handful of the responses on DU re: her and her situation.

"I'm concerned that she said X, and am only interested in getting the truth..." is a wonderfully back-handed statement made more than once likely implying "she's guilty because she's X, but I don't have the courage of my own convictions to actually say that.."

That includes the assertions like the one in this OP, that she's beyond suspicion.

The particulars of the incident are reminiscent of past cases, in which the killer turned out to be the mother herself. I don't think it's "evil" to note that fact and reserve judgement. This is a matter for the police to figure out.

I understand the "wait and see" approach.

But, the facts that have come in are conclusively pointing in the direction of her story being true.

The vast majority of crime complaints are not fabrications. People lose sight of that.

Her story is horrific, but certainly no less believable (from an outsider's position) than the tabloid version of a mother who 'in on it'. As I don't actually know anyone involved, the only really relevant point to me is the one that's undisputed-- that a toddler was shot in the head, apparently for money.

That much is absolutely sickening, no matter who was responsible.

Um. Well, I would hope not.

Anyway, I'm content to let the legal system run its course. I have no reason to accuse her of anything. If something else arises, then I'll consider it when it does.
