More than 1,000 demonstrators marched through downtown Atlanta Wednesday morning in support of overhauling the nations immigration system.

(239 posts)I think if I was one of the millions of Americans who are unemployed, or who have given up hope of finding a job, I would have made a point of showing up to counter-protest.

(32,052 posts)your counter protest should target the CORPORATIONS who lobby for free trade/cheap labor/deregulatory type policies.
My target would be the slack enforcement of our current immigration laws, and a BIG part of that is the corporations who hire illegal immigrates with impunity. I would love to see corporations hit with a $10K fine for every illegal immigrate working for the company. Then use that money to fund long term unemployment checks.
NPR had a story on this morning about how construction companies who hire union workers (and pay payroll taxes) cannot compete with companies who hire illegals. The story also covered how American kids can no longer graduate from High School and hope to make a good, middle class living as a union construction worker. 11 million illegal immigrates who are willing to work under the table killed that dream.
