Man Set on Fire in SUV Outside Long Beach 7-Eleven
Source: KTLA
LONG BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) Police are investigating a horrifying and seemingly random attack on a man outside a 7-Eleven store.
Investigators believe the 63-year-old victim was sitting in his car when another man tossed an incendiary device through an open window.
The SUV exploded in flames.
Witnesses helped pull the driver from the burning vehicle, but he suffered serious burns.
He was rushed to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.
It happened just after 5:00 p.m. on Friday near PCH and Clark Avenue in Long Beach.
Police have a possible suspect in custody. He is believed to be a 39-year-old homeless man who frequents the area.
The suspect was found at a nearby location taken into custody. I will be able to get more information as the investigation continues, Sgt. Aaron Eaton told KTLA.
No word on a motive for the attack.
Theres no information they had a relationship and no incident prior to this crime, so right now it looks like a random act, according to Sgt. Eaton.

It is the fault of the declining empire that the wandering, muttering, violent psychopath did not have a good job.
In a just society, as opposed to a declining empire, wandering, muttering, violent psychopaths would be given nice houses to live in.

(111,277 posts)Combine that with a far too narrow a definition of "danger to oneself and others" and you have a recipe for disasters like this one.
I hope the driver heals. I hope the perp is off the streets for the rest of his life.

She was covered under the ACA until she turned 26- trying to get someone to
insure her now is out of the question.
We have been denied by all of the insurance companies due to her pre existing condition.
I don't know what else to do but ask for help from Social Services in obtaining
Medicaid and disability. Now the insanity of that is this:
When under proper medical care she is able to function quite nicely and
would not need government assistance.

We still relegate mental health issues to the person's personal fault(s).

It is everyone else that has a problem. We need to recognize their superiority.

(111,277 posts)and remember a great deal of the problem is a too-narrow definition of "danger to oneself or others."
Likely he'd have been gotten off the street and put on medication years ago if the damned lawyers would loosen their death grip.

(11,093 posts)The scene was terrifying, said Shannon Flynn, 16, of Long Beach.
"He was engulfed in flames," she told the Long Beach Press-Telegram (http://bit.ly/154YZuu). "The fire was so big, people were screaming. I just can't believe this happened here."
Robert Linkroum said he was buying a newspaper at the store when he looked up and saw a man "walking on a mission" toward the car and throwing what appeared to be a bottle inside.
"The vehicle went up in flames immediately, just totally engulfed. It was all flames," he said. "It became so hot in 7-Eleven that I moved towards the back of the store because I thought the windows were going to blow."
Eaton said bystanders helped the burning man by trying to pour water on him to douse the flames.
Police arrested Raymond Sean Clark, 38, about a block away. Clark, who is homeless, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and for two misdemeanor warrants for failing to appear on other charges. He remained jailed Saturday on more than $500,000 bail.
Witnesses said Clark is a panhandler who asked people for change and cigarettes outside the store.
