Sarah Palin Says 'No' to Mark Burnett for TV Talk Show
Source: Newsmax
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has been offered a major syndicated TV talk show by reality show producer Mark Burnett but turned down the deal, Newsmax has learned.
One of countrys sought after speakers on the political circuit, Palin, Burnett believed, could be turned into the next Oprah. He offered to produce a daytime TV talk show hosted by the conservative icon herself.
But so far, Palin has said no though the deal is not completely dead, say insiders.
The sticking points have been over location and money, people familiar with the deal say.
Burnett has insisted that Palin do the show from either New York or Los Angeles, which would require her to move for a significant portion of the year from her residence in Alaska where she lives with husband Todd.

I believe the deal fell through when Palin learned she'd actually have to work...

(3,335 posts)Oprah, an overweight, black woman with nappy hair, (much like myself) used her intelligence to create a media empire and become a billionaire through hard work. Sarah Palin used her sexual appeal to a sexually repressed republican party and snarky, mean-girl inspired comments to rile up a hate-filled, racially motivated agenda with cheap jokes. She could never be anything close to an Oprah Winfrey because she's too stupid to know what she doesn't know. Her schtick only works when the audience is more of a fool than the performer.

(37,748 posts)I imagine different people value different things to do with their time... some enjoy reading comic books, others watch film, some listening to music, some play with pets, and yet other watch talk shows.
I'd imagine that, all things being equal, anyone who believed they had an absolute knowledge of what benign recreation is or is not a waste of time may validly be perceived as a wee bit self-important and imperious.

(16,993 posts)WHY is Sarah Palin one of the country's "sought after speakers"? The woman is an idiot. She's failed at everything she's ever done, except take money from people who are too stupid to see what she really is.
She was a lousy Governor, a lousy Mother, and she's embarrassed herself by opening her mouth more than almost anyone else in politics. She is stupid because she doesn't know when to shut the hell up and go home.
Your fifteen minutes of fame are up, Sarah. Go. The. Hell. Away.
wholeheartedly agree. But she has stretched that 15minutes because of 2second attention spans, that are the norm now.

(11,304 posts)isn't smart enough to hold down a job where she actually will have to know something and study it before she goes on air. She is to lazy for that. Plus I think after awhile people won't watch her show.

Not that I like Oprah, but come on.

(5,842 posts)1. She'd have to do the occasional celebrity interview. I'm not sure people are going to tune in to see her interview Charlie Daniels and Ted Nugent over and over again so she'd have to book people she has utter contempt for and vice versa.
2. She'd have to do human interest stories. Since she can't relate to anyone outside of her small little bubble that's going to be a problem.
3. She'd have to be somewhat informed on various issues in order to have an intelligent conversation with her guests. Since she apparently doesn't read anything that doesn't carry WND, Drudge or Fox News in the title there's another problem.
4. As others have mentioned she'd have to actually do something that took more time than appearing on FOX News for a few minutes every few days.
It would probably outlast "My Mother the Car" in terms of number of episodes aired but I can't see it lasting more than a few months. What's left of the generally sane side of the GOP wants nothing to do with her, no-one on the left side of the spectrum is going to even DVR the program and her rabid base isn't going to produce the viewing numbers that will be needed to justify the cost.

Palin is too lazy in every regard for that.
LanternWaste
(37,748 posts)I think she's savvy enough to realize how awful even the most friendly format would make her appear. She'd most likely say something far too outrageous (even cable-wise) within the first two or three episodes, and get roasted on every late night talk show for the next three weeks (by which time, she'd have said another dozen outrageous things...).
She's all about image, and I think she knows that to maintain her image, any film rolling while she's speaking would need to go through about four days of intensive editing and cutting to allow her to look even half-way normal (outside of her rabid fan-base, or course). A live talk-show would simply be inviting a train-wreck every other day.
Kinda like why Limbaugh's television show was yanked-- he saw himself debased live without the magic of editing or screening questions.

(99 posts)It was reported last night that former governor Sarah Palin (R-Beyond-the-Wall) has been offered a national syndicated talk show by reality TV mega-producer Mark Burnett (Survivor, Sarah Palin's Alaska), except she turned it down. Newsmax, of all places, got wind of this first, with Palin telling the site, "Todd and I have always loved working with Mark Burnett, and our family is always up for adventure, so never say never."
Aha, so in a weird way Palin is being coy with that quote, almost telling Mark Burnett again, through Newsmax that she's still potentially interested. It seems that part of the problem up to this point has been location, with Palin bristling at the idea of relocating to New York or Los Angeles, as Burnett is requiring that she do. Newsmax explains to us that "Palin has a distaste for cultural elites in the Big Apple and L.A., one person familiar with the discussions said." Hm. Isn't a former Vice Presidential candidate who's had a television show before and has published two books and is being offered another television show by one of the biggest producers in the business something of a cultural elite herself? I'd certainly think so!
Anyway, maybe Palin will decide to do it after all, if they figure out a way to allow her to travel back to Alaska frequently enough and if they give her the right payday. Is that something we'd want to watch? Sarah Palin becoming "the next Oprah"? It could be kind of fascinating, you must admit! And really, if she isn't talking politics, maybe everyone can get behind her. I'm sure she's got lots of insight and advice to give us all. So stop being so culturally elite, New York and L.A. You're scaring her off. Dumb down your own eliteness for just a little while so Sarah Palin can come film her national talk show in peace.

(9,350 posts)Mark Burnett saying that Sarah Palin could be the next Oprah is just stupid. First, in order to have a talk show you have to interview people. Who would she get to come on her show? Whether people like it or not Oprah on occasion covered serious topics on her show. What serious topics would Sarah Palin cover? Second, if you are going to be the next Oprah I think large numbers of people have to like you. Sarah Palin does poll well even in the Republican Party.
