GOP actually bullies an anti-bullying bill

Minnesota safe schools initiative dies after right balks, and local archdiocese calls it an "Orwellian nightmare"
By Mary Elizabeth Williams

Congratulations, Minnesota. Nearly three years after Anoka High School student Justin Aaberg hanged himself after allegedly being subjected to anti-gay harassment, state Republicans seem to have decided that bullying is no longer a problem. The Pioneer-Press reports Monday that an anti-bullying bill has been withdrawn “after Republicans said they planned 10 hours of debate on the issue.”

Using mean, aggressive measures to get your way over a bullying bill? Anyone else feel an Alanis Morissette verse coming on?

Conservatives up here do the same thing when a law like that comes down the pipe.

that think it's somehow a violation of their religious beliefs that they aren't allowed to scream the f word at gay people. I guess Jesus wants people to harass people so much they want to kill themselves.
Honestly... what's the difference between these people and Westboro "church"?

Minnesota Senate's anti-bullying bill pulled after GOP planned to extend debate

The Senate started debate on it late Sunday evening, May 19, but bill sponsor Sen. Scott Dibble, DFL-Minneapolis, said it was pulled early Monday morning after Republicans said they planned 10 hours of debate on the issue.

The deadline for the Legislature to adjourn is Monday, May 20, at midnight.

The proposed legislation would have required school districts to work with students and parents on policies to prevent bullying, investigate all formal complaints of such incidents and keep detailed records of bullying to help improve school safety. It also required ongoing professional development to train teachers in preventing bullying and set aside $1 million for a school climate center run by the Minnesota Education Department to help schools develop anti-bullying policies.

The bill passed the Minnesota House on a 72-57 vote earlier this month.

IMO it is sad and disgusting that the DFL majority Senate pulled this bill to save themselves from going into over time during a holiday week
