Marco Rubio: I will vote against my own immigration bill unless changes are made

Source: Washington Examiner

Sen. Marco Rubio, the leading Republican behind the Gang of Eight comprehensive immigration reform bill, says he will not vote for the legislation he helped write and has staked his political future on, unless substantial changes are made before final Senate consideration.

Speaking with radio host Hugh Hewitt Tuesday, Rubio said the Senate should “strengthen the border security parts of this bill so that they’re stronger, so that they don’t give overwhelming discretion to the Department of Homeland Security.” He said he was working with other senators on amendments to do just that.

Then Hewitt asked: “If those amendments don’t pass, will you yourself support the bill that emerged from Judiciary, Senator Rubio?”

Rubio answered, “Well, I think if those amendments don’t pass, then I think we’ve got a bill that isn’t going to become law, and I think we’re wasting our time. So the answer is no.”

See, what you do is cut the parts they don't like, without getting their agreement that if you cut them, that they will support the bill. Then you take it to the floor and plead with them that you cut the parts they didn't like so will they please support the bill. Then when they don't, you claim you did "all you could". You also explain like crazy to your own supporters why the nonsupport of the GOP was more important that the support of your own supporters positions.

It's all very complicated and you should just support the democratic party because anything else is would just be Romney being president.

have already inserted their poison pills into this deal. They never had any intention of going for it, and even if the Dems gave them everything the wanted, they still wouldn't vote for it. They have to maintain some cred with their troglodyte constituents. That requires obstruction, not governance.

what if we promise to use drones to shoot illegals?
mines? how about we just give the native Americans their land back and let them deal with illegals? They did a pretty good job until we kicked them out.
