W.H. official: Contraceptive rule stands

W.H. official: Contraceptive rule stands
By Leigh Ann Caldwell

"We're going to go ahead and implement it," White House Chief of Staff Jack Law said.

After being pressed by host Bob Schieffer about the White House's latest change to its contraception coverage policy and the push-back the administration is receiving from the Catholic Church, Lew said the White House is comfortable with its decision.

"We have broad consensus - not universal consensus - that this is an approach that's right," Lew said.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops denounced the modification in a lengthy statement: "We will therefore continue - with no less vigor, no less sense of urgency - our efforts to correct this problem through the other two branches of government."

down, because their controlling antiquated policies affect entire families. I am not a Catholic, and do not believe we should be pushed around by Rome.Their religious values are not mine, and I see no reason why they should have a say in our laws. With all the Priest who have molested and raped children,AND their attempts at covering it up, they are in NO position to try and mandate their so-called morals to us.

Where was these bishops' "sense of urgency" to get rid of the pedophile priests? These bishops can't possibly believe in god and act this way. They are in a frenzy issuing long statements insisting contraception (that prevents the need for abortions!) is a "problem" they need to "correct with vigor" and "urgency" through each "branch of government." But drop a dime on a pedo priest? No, no, no need to involve the police--we'll deal with that problem in house. If this lobbying of all branches of government is not political action, I don't know what is. Their tax exempt status should be taken away immediately. Sick, evil hypocrites.

"...(T)his is an approach that's right," Lew said.

And The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops know it now, if they didn't before.

They got what they wanted; Obama got what he wanted; the insurance companies got what they wanted (they'll come out ahead paying for contraception rather than unwanted pregnancies and abortions). Best of all, ALL American woman can get free contraception from their insurance companies IF THEY CHOOSE TO -- which means women who DON'T want to use contraception for WHATEVER reason get what THEY want, too!

This approach is SO right, in fact, I'm willing to bet that this is the outcome Obama ultimately wanted in the first place.

Welcome to Pwned-ville, bishops -- try to enjoy your stay!

The statement itself shows that the church is - and intends to be - political ... so their tax exempt status needs to go, like yesterday.

to get together to form a PAC and just get it over with. Then they would have to take care of the taxes that they don't now.

Along those lines, they already may have one with the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) refuses, even under court order, to reveal their backers. Since the leaders were all Catholic and one of the money sources is the Knights of Columbus, I wonder if their other sources includes the RCC itself.

I really don't believe that the Bishops will give up until they force their views on the entire country. Maybe they need to work on the 98% of the Catholic women to follow the rules before they start to try and control the rest of the populace.
