Democratic Senators Fail In Another Attempt To Restore Lower Rates On Student Loans

Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON — An effort to restore lower interest rates on student loans has failed in the Senate.

The White House and most Senate Democrats favored restoring interest rates on subsidized Stafford loans to 3.4 percent for another year. But lawmakers on Wednesday were unable to muster the necessary 60 votes to overcome a procedural hurdle.

That left interest rates at 6.8 percent — a rate that leaders from both parties called unacceptable.

Interest rates doubled on July 1 because Congress was unable to send a bill to President Barack Obama for his signature.

For so many of us, this is just going to murder us financially. I have been paying on student loans since I finished graduate school in my late twenties. The burden of illness put them into forbearance but never eradicated them nor did it stop interest from accruing. I will be dead before my loans are paid off or parts of my future social security checks will be used to not just fund my meager living but also continue to pay them off.

Something dramatic needs to happen as I am not an exception but the rule.

this against the Dems for the 2014 elections although I'm pretty sure its will backfire on them. Immigration will fail in the house because the gopers say the 11 million immigrates will vote for Dems and that is a no no, and gopers will vote to repeal Obamacare for the 38th time and in the goper run states not expanding Medicaid because it doesn't help poor women/people, and the list goes on.

Student Loan is one the the gopers weapons to use against the Dems - 2014.

Less volatile than the last time I talked about him. Harry promised "filibuster reform" many times. I guess he did not keep his word,.
so, the interest rate doubles. That is the failure of "no reform"

Reid is as bad as the Repugs because he enables them to block every piece of legislation by being such a coward, and refusing to change the filibuster rules.

I believe this has already passed in WI and NC? I can't believe how dispicable these actions are, there is nothing to justify this, no logical reason other than stopping left leaning voters from being able to vote.

Reid let's the GOP insist on 60 votes to pass legislation that would be beneficial to America.
